4790 Smoking Screen

I've got a 4790 and upon turning it on the screen started to get crazy, then a little whisp of smoke came from the mid left hinge, not the two on either side but the odd little one. It looked like it was glowing underneath that area. Any ideas? I bought it used, has been working fine for the last 3 months and been well treated. I don't believe I have it under warranty-is this goodbye $1,300?

it looks like it may be the backlight

try an external monitor first

exactly the same thing happened to me picked the laptop up and it started to smoke. the screen went crazy! luckily had it repaired on warranty they never said what it was. but they've not replaced the screen.

my guess is that it's the lcd controller electronics smoking since that is where they are located i believe
