I just got my desktops mobo replaced under warranty and the guy at the store told me I would have to re-install windows Xp........does that mean all the shit on my harddrive is gone???? I really hope shit will not hit the fan. If so, is there anyway to salvage this data?

Haha! Nice, W!

I hope your HDD sh!t isn't gone either. You're about to get some really weird sh!t posted up in here for starting this in Off Topic. Good luck, and purchase Norton Ghost for all your HDD cloning and data-saving needs. If you're not sure, you know what to do:

And once again, i point out that guys with bad@ss forum names should be forced to follow through. atomicadam seems to be panicking a little here. Not very atomic. Or perhaps, it's atomic perfection.

find a friend with a desktop, hook it up to their machine, copy your data on to their drive. then take it back to your machine, install win. take drive back to friend's machine, copy your data from their drive to yours. easiest way i know of...you'll have to pay attention to the master/slave pin config and all that...

i have random stuff saved on several hdd that i've accumulated over the last 15 years...before i got an external hdd just for backup, i had to go through the above rigamarole a bit...

i wonder what danwad would have to say...

If its the same type of mobo you might even let you old winXP on it because !! ITS THE SAME!! and no your HDD sh!t should be OK as long as it wasn't dameged as well.

It was changed from an Asus p4p800s to an Asus p4p800-dx. The change should be pretty minimal.....but I have no knowledge of this kind of thing; a n00b druid like me wouldn't know what to expect from a machine. Wouldn't the desktop startup, and want to repair windows if the disk was in? I just don't want to lose the 40gb of music and 1000's of camping/partying pictures I took....that would be a pretty rough day. Along the same lines as losing a child.

I love posting questions on NBF because I get answers so quickly! ahhh so refreshing.
