HP Video Out Gobblins

Ok here's a problem for all the wizzes out there...
I recently thought myself a wizz until today i was finally defeated miserably by a hp.... laptop!!...
Anyway video out on a hp zt3000.. will not bloody work on any tv except one.. a big rear projection sony.
We have tried all different cable combinations.. The only one that worked on the sony was a straight m/m s-video cable. Tried the same cable on another, slightly older, panasonic tv and nothing. Except a flash in the blueness when adjusting settings 'display' settings in ati cp.

The other we have tried is a s-vid -> composite converter with composite cable. Into the sony and other tv's nothing. Also a s-vid -> composite cable w/o converter... Bearing in mind another tv we tested on was a sony trinatron and it didn't work. I have tried every setting in relation to pal & ntsc adjusting on both tv and computer and trying auto. In windows display setting the '2' screen resolution is set to 1280x??? and cannot be lowered (it just returns there)

Have even tried running through a sony amp as tv/sat and then video and still nothing.. if anyone could help that'd be great-take the challange.. don't let hp defeat us all!!!

One question, did you plug in the tv before turning on the laptop, that for me has always ensured an easy detection.

Also, if I were you I would sell that zt3000 and get another lappy asap. I had an X1000 (same thing but with Compaq branding) and there were widespread reports of the video card dying late (probably not an issue if you have the 7500) in the laptop's life cycle (I have had this problem first hand). Check out www.x1000forums.com for a lot of info on your laptop.
