STRANGE! Artifacts / Misspellings during boot up ***HELP***

(pics in 2nd post below)

First of all I have done extensive searching but I am unable to find usefull information regarding my problem. I will try and explain as best as I can.

When I turn on my 8814 (same as 8890) I am seeing some blurry or morphing letters, misspelled words during boot up process. When XP does start everything seems fine except for when I try and play a game or use 3DMark benchmarking utility. Major artifacts occur while using these programs.

If it was a simple video driver problem then why would it affect the boot up process since the drivers are not loaded up during this time?

I just got this machine back from Pro-Star a few weeks ago after having a mobo replaced...is it possible they put in a bad one?

I have flashed the BIOS using latest (v10)...didn't help
I have tried different video drivers...didn't help

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

P4 3.2
1 G Ram
ATI Mobility 9600 128MB
Lates ATI drivers for Mobility cards (I've tried Omega as well)

Here is what I am trying to explain. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Artifacting. Might be caused by heat. When was the last time that you cleaned out the unit?

It's clean. I just got it back from Pro-Star a few weeks ago after a mobo replacement. Plus I keep very good care of my systems usually cleaning once a month, at least, with air. I thought about heat but the funny thing about it is that it does this even when cold. It can be sitting, turned off, for a couple of days and when I do turn it on this is what I get. In fact it seems to be a BIT better (not so many errors/artifacts) after it's been on awhile.

Wierd indeed.
I would have said it was just the video memory until I noticed the misspelt "Ultr' " and "raghts" in the second pic.

First off check the memory dimms are inserted correctly.
Beyond that I would have to say something is not right with the mobo.
I know you just got it back
I would ask them if they did a QA check on the system and if they did who signed off on it (if anyone will own up).

Thanks for Aussie. I'll try and taking one dimm out, booting up, then do the same with the other dimm. If it's not the memory I'll just send it back to Prostar and hope it's the motherboard. (no more $ out of my pocket if it is the mobo)

Thanks again.
