Do different drivers increase performance?

Howdy. Thanks for all the past posts about the desktop questions. I finally received the parts and have been testing it out. On to my question: I ended up buying the 7800gt 256 pci-e card. I have tested out City of Villians and Age of Empires 3. I put each of these games on the max settings, and each did not run smooth as silk. I'm wondering, what kind of beast machine do people need to run these newer games at the max settings?

I'm sure I can tweak it by taking it down a bit in different areas, and get it to run amazing. I just wondered if perhaps getting different drivers or something would increase performance. I'm just amazed it still had slowdown at the highest possible settings for a game like Age of Empires 3.

depends on how they work with your other componants, example: mobo

sure... drivers do increase performance. As an example, take Omega and NGO drivers. They are modded exactly to give more performance.

DDDa is correct, and thats a perfect example of one. Although, that's a good video card, one can not go into games with that alone. You'll have to upkeep the other components for today's standards in order to play today's games.

that's what I mean in my "ten points" thread.

Quoting myself: "the best buyer does not focus on only one component, but on all of them, balancing the performance among the system. Only this way you avoid bottlenecks, as a single, poor piece of hardware can ruin all those last model processors and graphic cards."
