The difference between AW and Dell Lappies (to me)

Thread Starter
The GPU on my new XPS is running a bit hot...mid 90's during FEAR/FarCry. Nothing new to me since I had a desktop P4 in my old laptop which was even worse. As such, I am considering opening up my XPS and putting AS5 or cramique to try and help the situation. With all the guidance here and on the Dell site, it shouldn't be too hard, but I am reluctant to open her up since she is running really well for me.

Now with my Alienware-766, I can't remember how many times I opened her up to clean it out in an attempt to keep the temps low. My screws are pretty much striped from all the times and I even lost one of them. No hesitation to go in at all.

Based on that, I would just like to say to any potential buyers out there that the experience has been vastly different for me when I switched to the Dell. Very little frustration and I must say that I really like the new system. I like it so much that I don't want to mess it up. No fears with the AW one because it was already pretty well messed up. Not much I could do to make it worse.

YMMV

I dont trust or like Clevo's deisgns in engineering. Things always run way to hot and seem to be "JIMMY_RIGGED". Compal and others seem to have a little better engineering behind them (Dell).

I've had both... I had an old p4 3.4ghz M51 that I got in 03, and it over heated all the f'ing time... the PCMCIA slot stopped working and I tripped on the mouse once and it broke a section of 4 usb slots... and the cdrom was failing.. all in all.. suckage.. Played games like a beast though.. I was going to send it back for at least the pcmcia slot and cdrom problem, and the overheating, and I spilled coke on it.. lol guess that was my subcon doing what it had to do.. Today I got my i9300.. + the accidental warranty.. no reason to look back now.

I like Asus. Dells seem to be quite roomy and great for gaming, but what comes with that is heaviness and fatness. To keep the weight lower, Dell's have been known to use cheaper plastic parts, especially them Quantas.
I think there's an article floating around about Dell being in talks with Asus to do some of their line up.
