Ok now I am confused Old Sentia or New Sentia

Thread Starter
I have wanted the (now considered OLD) sentia for months now, almost jumped in at back to school time but was low on funds, and then these new sentias came out about a week ago and I am confused as to which to go with.

Hoping for some input here and help deciding...

Here are my needs, basically I will use my sentia for dvd viewing, mp3 playback and creation of mp3's, web surfing, emails, word, excel, dvd shrink (if I go with the dvd burner), and beyond that no real gaming besides maybe a very simple game like roller coaster tycoon now and then.

I am trying to weigh the price vs options of these also considering looks.

Cosmetic wise, I actually prefer the old style curved looking grip and old style black headed alien logo vs the newer silver alien and squared new grips - altho i do dig the glow logo on the new style.

Looks aside, it appears I can save some cash now ordering that same sentia I would have 3-5 months ago...

Just wondering if for my applications noted above will I as the end user really see BIG differences between the two models performance wise or are these new sentias made to solve the gap gamers were complaining about?

I don't know a ton about the real differences but on either unit I will go with at least a 7200 RPM 60 gig drive, and at least a gig of ram, with a pent m 725-730 range processor, altho i noticed the ram is different speeds and FSB is different on new vs old too but will I really SEE or FEEL the difference between DDR 2700 ram and 400 FSB (old sentia) vs DDR2 553 ram and 533 FSB (new sentia) in basic applications like outlook, internet explorer or watching a dvd?

Anything else this new sentia offers that will increase performance besides the ram and FSB specs?

Curious if I will see the difference in performance for what I will do most with the lappy (surf web, watch a dvd, listen to or create mp3s etc).

Thanks for any input and help on deciding..

Just wish they could build me the sentia 3200 specs wise in the old sentia case design...

In reference to performance difference there probably isn't much of one if any at all. The main difference is that its gone to pci-e and ddr2, which is better on battery life as the ddr2 is lower voltage, other than that there isn't much different that I can tell.

the sentia is good at what you have named... thats what i use it for... school work like powerpoints, spreadsheets, and word.

FTLOSM...that's a good question, I had the same questions myself. The new one almost looks just like the old one with a new lid. Some internals have changed.

I would have to say go with the old sentia. The main difference now is the looks. Personally, I would go with the original sentia, because it is cheaper, which allows you to add more to it. It really comes down to how much you think that you would need extra battery power. Hope that helps.

grab the uniwill 233ii0 (old sentia) and add on tons of crap to it

the old sentia and the now one are one and the same.. the new one just has a new lid on it..

On the contrary, the new ones have a 533 Mhz FSB, as opposed to a 400, the 915 GM+ICH6 motherboard, instead of the 855GME, an' the Intel GMA900 extreme video card instead of the extreme graphics 2.
Quite a huge difference, I'm afraid. Please, find out if you're telling the truth or not before you comment.

im pretty sure it still has the extreme graphics 2

Go here: http://alienware.com/Configurator_Pa...de=SKU-DEFAULT
Scroll down to where it says 'Video Card' an' read what it says.

If you don't beleive Alienware, go here:http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/embedded/915gm.htm
And read the introductory paragraph, where it states quite clearly the graphics technology used.

Please let me know where you get your information, I often long for good laughs.

i looked at the tech specs section and under graphics it says "New Intel Extreme Integrated Graphics" i thought they just ment the extreme graphics 2.. sorry.

Hey Bug Eater, do you know exactly what motherboard is in the Sentia 223? Or where to find out?

yes, matter of fact I do. Go here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=57419

Scroll down to where it says 'motherboard' and read the following.

AH, thanks. IntelĀ® 855GME+ICH4M Chipset PC-2700 @ 333MHz. Now, does anyone know where to buy one? Someone quoted me $495.00, that seems high to me...
