Upgraded F3200 to Turion ML-34!!!

*Edit* I have upgraded to a MT-40 now. The old ML-34 worked perfectly and does not have any problems at all. Same story for the MT-40. It is displaying as a 4000+. I have also upgraded my drive to a Hitachi 7200rpm drive.

Why not just buy a new laptop? Franlkly, I love the looks of the Ferrari 3000 series. I might pick up another 3200 on Ebay for cheap and pop the ML-34 in there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well...i finally did the deed. Had this CPU sitting around for a while and decided to take the plunge. It was a direct swap. The only problem is that the bios shows that it is a 3400HE instead of a Turion, but oh well.

All I can say is WOW this thing is FAST now, even with the slower HDD. Next step is to upgrade to the Hitachi 7200 and slap some more RAM.

I'm very happy with this!

Anyhow, here are the screen shots:

Cool, how difficult was it to remove the heatsink and cpu? Im assuming gettin to those 2 wasnt to hard, as I think there is only a small panel to take off right?

Im wondering this because I want to replace my ml-30 with some higher one, but when I asked the Acer support guys about such a thing they told me that its impossible to do because it would require a lot of digging into the system.

Good that finally someone had some *beep* to do this. Umm, how fast is "fast?" Could you post some benchies over here? I've been thinking to upgrade my Ferrari for a long time now... Anyway, have fun with your souped up Ferrari!

Which BIOS are you using? I've seen a few ML-37's for sale up in the electronic's market in Seoul around the $200.00 range.. so I just might be convinced to give it a try with one of them..

And I really thought that I had the only Ferrari 3200 in Seoul! Happy to be proven wrong, thou! I've got two questions.

Have to you seen any of those MT-line processors laying anywhere? I'm especially interested in MT-40 as it's TDP is only 25W. I'm willing to wait a until the prices become more reasonable.

From your sig I noticed that you've upgraded your RAM. What brand you are using and where did you get it? From danawa.com or yongsan? Furthermore, do you think that the money spend on new stick(s) was _really_ worth it?

Thanks and take care!

Sadly no I haven't seen any MT series Turions while up there. You're are not the only one who wants to slide in an MT-40.. but they will probably start to show up soon , at least I hope they do!!!

I am stationed over here at Osan AB , so I picked up the two 512mb here on base. Normally I would have picked them up at yongsan but these were priced wrong , so I got a hell of a deal!!!! I noticed a definate improvement in gameplay and in bootup time when I increased the available ram.

I did pick up my 100gb hd from yongsan though.. I paid around $103 for it with the current exchange rate. Can't beat that even with web pricing! It's a Toshiba MK1032GAX .. I did swap the 80gb back in though, since the Toshiba did get noticeably hotter under my palm while gaming and or anything else HD intensive.. which is kind of a suprise since every review of that drive said it was cooler running than the stock 80gb.. oh well the way I look at it is.. I still have 180gb of space for MP3's and DVD's.... so you won't catch me complaining

Thanks for the info! Too bad that MT-processors haven't arrived here yet. But there seems to be quite a few stores in Japan that are selling them, thou. And the price isn't that bad (around USD 280). Maybe I should ask a friend of mine to send me one.

By the way, what memory brand are you using? I'l like to buy stick or two (400DDR) but before doing that I'd like to be sure that it'll work with my Ferrari.

Then I should look for the Win XP 64-bit (non-Korean version), and a blue tooth mouse, and... and... and... It might be easier to buy a completely new laptop! Nah! Customizing is fun!

if you're interested in, I'm using a module 1GB kingston ddr400 3-3-3-8. I've tried to set timings to 2,5-3-3-6, it works perfectly, but there is not much more gain.
now my laptop works very well!

It wasn't that hard, just make sure you take your time and keep track of all the screws! There's close to 30 of them when you have everything apart.

What benchmarks would you like me to run? I don't have any benchmarking software, but I can def run some for you guys.

I also slapped in a 7200rpm 80GB drive. This thing screams now.

I might be able to get my hands on a MT-40 very shortly, so i'll be giving that a shot too. I just need more ram for now.

you can run superpi, pcmark2005 and a 3dmark, 2005 if you want. so we can see if there something better even for the gpu
about the hd: what brand? you can use hd tune or hd tach to test tranfer rate & acces time.
finally in pcmark2005 there is a score for the hd. I remember my old 4200rpm was about 2300-2500. now with the hitachi 7k60 I make 36xx. I'm curious to know your score (I think it will be 4000)

First upgraded Ferrari 3200 to ML-34, now it's a MT-40!

So now i've upgraded to a MT-40. WOrks perfectly. I also upgraded my HDD to a Hitachi 80GB 7200 drive. I just need some ram and i'll be all set.

Bios 3A27 works fine. It just recognizes the CPU as a 4000+EE.

Stay tuned...benchmarks to come shortly

I know I would definately like to see some benchmarks, SuperPi.. maybe PCMark.. I'd really don't care for 3Dmark since its geared more for the graphics card..

Thought of trying the 3A28 BIOS? It might fix the CPU reporting Error....
and since you ditched the ML-34 for a MT-40.. wanna give me the ML-34 You know to help a poor deserving US miltary member away from home for the next year???

"By the way, what memory brand are you using? I'l like to buy stick or two (400DDR) but before doing that I'd like to be sure that it'll work with my Ferrari."

Generic PNY DDR400.. CPUz and the other programs list them as Xerox branded Week 28 Year 04 3-4-4-8

Then I should look for the Win XP 64-bit (non-Korean version), and a blue tooth mouse, and... and... and... It might be easier to buy a completely new laptop! Nah! Customizing is fun!!

I might know another certain Ferrari 3200 owner in the Seoul area that has x64(US version): if you get my meaning

Tanks!

Thanks for letting me know the memory brand and all. I must go shopping soon. Well, after all it's only money, right?

Since I can't find MTs anywhere from Korea, I might be forced to get it from Japan. Accorging to this site http://kakaku.com it is not even _that_ expensive. But before ordering any new toys I want to hear what "What The" paid for his.

*Cough* Yeah, I think I know what you mean. *Cough* But first I'll try to find one by myself. Thanks anyway!

Edit: And naturally the subject should be Thanks and not Tanks... or is the neighbor already coming for a visit?
