Advice requested: Hypersonic or Sager?

Thread Starter
I am still looking for a new Laptop, and I am hoping for some expert advice from the experts of the board. Which system would be better for gaming: a Sager 8890 P4 3.2 with a 128MB Radeon, or a Hypersonic Aviator AX6, AMD 64 with a 64MB Radeon graphics card?
THanks, Schorsch

Hypersonic is good brand but I wouldn't get that model. Get either the Sager or the equivalent Hypersonic or different Hypersonic model.

Admittedly, the 8890 is gonna be more expensive, but you'll get far more bang for your buck vs. the AX6. The 8890 offers lots of expandability options, its graphics card is more "future-proof" and the 3.2 P4 is more powerful than the AMD 3200+. If you can live with the added bulk/weight of the 8890, then it's a slam-dunk choice over the AX6.

Hope this helps!

Look at the Sager 5680 or 4780 if you want something lighter. Look around the Sager area of this forum to see other peoples opinions on the 4780 though.

I'd wait until Hypersonic introduces the 128 MB video card, it should be coming out 1Q, if you can wait that long. Then I'd get it, Athlon64, 128 megs, 1 gig of ram.. my dream computer (although there is better)

Hmm..

Although Im a sager supporter, the hypersonic comes close to matching to matching the sager in almost all applications while providing a battery life over 3 hours. However, the overall value of the hypersonic is far less than the sager. For example, I configured a 8890 on hypersonic's eqivalent model number and it ran $900 more (yikes). THus, you can figure hypersonic is drastically overpricing their new athlon 64 system as well (which voodoo did to an even greater extent). I am tempted by the new athlon 64 systems simply because the battery life is so damn good for such a powerful system. Not tempted enough to buy one instead at this point though.

Hypersonic is a Sager reseller also, like PCTORQUE. They only have a few different models.

While the battery life is nice (3+ hours) for the AX6 - I believe that was doing minimal / normal stuff (like watching a DVD). That is still awesome, but don't plan on gaming on a battery

False. Hypersonic is an OEM like Sager; they both sell Clevo notebooks. Hypersonic's prices are almost identical to Sager's, but Sager resellers are much cheaper, and HS has no reseller program.

I ordered the Hypersonic GX6, which is the same Clevo as a Sager 5680. I just received a notice that it has shipped, so I'll review it as soon as I get it (should be the 18th). I went with Hypersonic due to its great no-dead-pixel policy, but we'll see how things actually are when I get it.

I know that. I was simply refering to the Athlon 64 they are offering when refering to performance.

I went with the Hypersonic AX6 -- on order and scheduled for delivery next week. I seriously considered the Sager 5680, but in the end chose the Hypersonic because the of the mobility (it's a couple lbs less and thinner) and better battery time (I'll be unplugged much of the time). Will post my thoughts on it when it arrives.
