Dell 9300 BIOS A05 SUPPORTS 6800 Ultra GO!!

Results: A05 RECOGNIZES, but does not run in full power mode.

3d05 with A05 9300: 3000+
3d05 With A05 XPS Gen 2: 5000+

Ah well, it would have been nice:

Previous stuff:

I was as shocked as you are! I installed my 6800 Ultra Go, and decided to just update my BIOS to A05, just to see what it does.

It flashed, I went into my BIOS, and what did I see??

6800 Ultra Go! Yay! Saweeeet! Now to download drivers!

Anyways, heres some results for you guys:

3dMark05=3074 Drat! Looks like a BIOS flash to the XPS Gen 2 is in order.
Aquamark=48K with AIM/Dameon Tools/OpenOffice/Gtallk, etc. in background with no driver updates(running the Dell 70. somethings that they provide)

Not bad, not terribly good either. Can't compare with anything, gonna run 3dMark05 soon.

Problems with A05 FAN controlling is rather irritating, I downloaded i9kfangui

Install this first (http://diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html)
Install this next(http://mckenziedev.com/fdownloads.htm)

Tadaa! Dropped my CPU Load from 60 C to 46! This is a pinmodded 2.13, mind you, Vmodded to 1.2v @2.13

i thought all the bios's could see the 6800 ultra its just that the 9300 bios did not give the card enough power...

me too

Run 3dmark to see if you get a normal score after you have updated the drivers.

My A02 BIOS Said "Unknown Card"

My A05 Says "6800 Ultra Go"

Gimme a ballpark figure this system should get in 3DMark05..

2.13Ghz P-m
1GB 4300 RAM
6800 Ultra Go

THanks!

Id say something over 5000

5325 here with modded 9300.

2.13G CPU
2G ram
6800go ultra (not overclocked)
100G 5400 HDD
can't remember which drivers - 82.something
post #8 of 30
82.04 i guess. There is only 04 in 82.xx series.

Neato, I wonder if the 7800 will work without flashing? There's got to be a good chance of it. I'll certainly be a lot more interest in the upgrade to one of those cheap ultras on ebay at the moment
post #10 of 30
i wonder how a05 will handle the 6800 ultra or the 7800 knowing it has alleged "heat issues" with the fan being off all the time.....

Ah HA! THat explains why I'm getting like, no airflow :-p.

and my CPU is @ 54 C :-p.

Any news on if dell plans on patching this?

Anyways, I got 48K in Aquamark, and 3D05 refused to run because I had my CPU undervolted Upped the voltage a tad, and improved my airflow a little bit, and am gonna try and run it again. Now at least my CPU hovers around 54C Full load, but with the 6800 Ultra Go, I have no idea what's gonna happen.

Why not simply use i9kfangui to adjust the fans? I typically leave them OFF or on SLOW but when gaming I turn them up to HIGH.

this is great if the bios works without flashing a new one

Yea, just found out about that thing I'm running it now.
so now we can upgrade without flashing xps bios, but we will need the battery and the power brick to run it with full power does right?
if that´s right very good news i wish that 7800 can too
post #17 of 30
I am thinking that you might need the xps bios flash because you might need more power to run the ultra
i hope that i am wrong and you can run it at full power (3dmark05 around 5000)
Perhaps someone who's done the full conversion already and has a 9300 and XPS powerbrick could tell us if they get any difference between scores on each
post #19 of 30
I don't know about the bios recognising the 6800 ultra but I can tell you for a fact it does not recognise the 7800.I have installed mine without flashing the bios as I am still waiting on a 9cell battery and the bios states I have an unrecognised video card.Although windows does recognise the card and I can use it perfectly fine albeit throttled until I flash.

Ill do it. Give me a little time. I will post results asap.
