Did anyone ever figure out if the temps given by i9kfangui are accurate for the 7800?

Does anyone know how accurate these temp readings are? It tells me that I am idling at 47 - i don't want that to actually be 52 (someone in here, don't remember where, said that i9kfangui may actually give temps about 5 degrees lower than actual temps) which is closer to the 6800 ultra. I as5'd my vid card.

i9kfangui shows 6 to 7 degrees lower than my Nvidia Control Panel. I also get wacky stuff with my processor (ie 20 degree jumps) from time to time.

It's off 6-7 degrees as mentioned, I don't get any weird processor jumps though.

Is the Nvidia control panel accurate? I don't know what to trust and I am trying to establish whether or not I did a good job of as5ing.

If anyone is familiar with the as5 procedure, what i did was start with a bb sized dot of the as5 and spread it all around using the finger in a plastic baggie method. As I did this it became impossible to fill all of the the "breaks" in the as5. When I would move as5 to fill one break, it would form a new one where i had just moved my finger. After 15-20 minutes of doing this, I decided it would be best to add a smidgen more and rubbed it all in good so that there were no visible breaks in the as5 on either the heatsink or the core. (That's another question - I just assumed it would be best to as5 both the heatsink and the core, though some people have said it forms too thick a layer doing it that way).

Then sealed it all up.

My idle temp in i9kfangui is 42 upon boot and 47-49 after heavy gaming.

Any feedback greatly appreciated..

Control Panel is accurate, and if you want graphing based off the control panel temp you can get NVtemplogger and it will map it for you.

Sounds like you did the as5 procedure fine. It doesn't have to be perfectly even, but make sure it isn't too thick. When you apply the heatsink it should fill the gaps anyway as long as you didn't leave some spots completely bare.

Also it's a good idea to only do the core, since you may get air bubbles doing both heatsink and core.

make sure the heatsink is tightly attached, if it is loose temps can be a good deal higher

so after heavy gaming were your i9kfangui temps reading like 41-42 (so in actuality 47-48) for the vid card? Most people in these forums (and myself) were reporting idling at 47-49 after heavy gaming and i was basing the quality of my cardswap/as5ing on that fact. Now it seems that people who reported that are in actuality idling around 53-55. Is this a decent idle temp?

What do you guys think?

I just put ceramique on both CPU and GPU. I didn't really track my CPU that much, but the fans are coming on a lot less now. I am pretty sure that the temps have dropped on the CPU. A good guess would be about 6-8C I think. CPU is undervolted to 0.700/1.084.

CPU - Prime95
Fast speed fan: 47C
Slow speed fan: 54-55C

CPU - Idle
Slow speed fan: 32-35C
Fast speed fan: Same (??)

Playing around with the GPU some, it seems my max temps dropped from 97C in intensive games (FarCry/FEAR) to about 85C and from 84C to around 77C in 3dMark05. All that is with the fan in high. GPU is not overclocked, but does seem to overclock fairly well without affecting temps much.

GPU - Idle
After boot-slow speed GPU fan: 47-49C
After some gaming, then sitting around slow speed GPU fan: 51-57C 54C is pretty common.
After some gaming, then manual setting both GPU/CPU fans to fast: 51-52C.

All temps as reported by I9KFANGUI. FWIW, the GPU temps for me are 6C lower than what the nVidia control panel reads. CPU and HD temps agree with NHC.

Still kinda worried about the heat, but the keyboard is a lot cooler now and I am hoping that as the ceramique cures some my temps may drop a bit more. Running Prime95 and FarCry to stress the system, then shutting down to let it cool.

Edit: I remember hearing that some claimed the intel wireless ran hot. That could be what is driving my temps up. Gonna play around with it disabled some tonight.

For an easy 'rough' calibration of your temperature sensors:

Have FanGUI Console up and pointer on "Update" and then put your system in Stand By, overnight.

Next day, resume and update temps, then hit Prt Scrn to store readings on clipboard (they will be increasing rapidly).

CPU should be highest at that moment and others should be close to room ambient temperature.

on boot, my temps idle at ~29 / 47-49.
after loads of gaming, the temps will idle at ~29-30 / 51-52

overall my temps are similar to ryotaro's
