Latitude D810 vs Inspiron 9300 for BF2

Hi All,
I am down to two notebooks- prices are similar (within 100 bones) but I am getting stuck on screen size/weight vs video card.

The D810 comes with a faster processor (PM780 2.26GHz) but a slower video card (radeon x600 w 128mb ram)and a 15.4 inch wide screen.

The I9300 comes with a slightly slower processor (PM770 2.13GHz) but a faster video card (Radeon go6800 w 256mb ram) and a 17 inch wide screen.

My primary excuse for buying a higher end notebook is to play BF2 on the road. Having said that, I don't want to carry any more with me than I need to.

A few questions for the smart peeps:
What is the difference in playability (?) between a 17 inch and a 15.4 inch screen?

Does anyone have any experience with BF2 or other games on the wide screen format? good/bad?

Comparing the two processors and the associated video cards what sort of performance hit will I take to go with the x600 video card vs the go6800? Noticable?

It looks like I can spec out all other things fairly close (HD, RAM, Wireless, etc) so it comes down to is what should I sacrifice in playing speed of the D810 if any, or should I suck it up and go with the I9300 and perhaps hate myself while lugging the big box around.
Thanks,
Ratburt

Go with the 9300. I don't have any experience played BF2 on a laptop yet (mine should be delivered next week) but i do have plenty of experience playing on the desktop. You'll need the memory (2GB is recommended). The 6800 is a much better graphics processor than the x600 (the x600 is like a low mid-range card, the 6800 is a low high-end card). But based on that, the processor speed is neglible (you can always overclock your 770 if need be). Plus, you'll like the bigger screen for gaming. And since it has a higher resolution, it should make for a very nice display.

I have the 9300 and play battlefield but not b2 as yet. What kind of hit will you take with an x600 card compared to the 6800? A BIG ONE, If gaming is one of your concerns, you shouldnt be looking at the D810. These systems weigh about the same, the d810 has a slightly more rugged case but the 9300 is a very well built machine with mag alloy in the chassis and lcd lid where as the d810 is all mag alloy, the 9300 has bigger screen, far better video card, two more usb ports, firewire, vga and dvi ports and comes in cheaper than a D810 which is a business machine, hence its extra harddrive capacity and serial/parallel legacy ports.
As for size, the 9300 is about an inch wider and half an inch deeper, so we arent talking about a gigantic size difference between the two, I carry my 9300 to work all of the time and you will greatly appreciate the 6800 nvidia card over that x600 card as far as the cpu's go, I would consider a 2.oghz, which is comparable to a 3.2/3.4 ghz pentium 4. Anyhow, you wont discern a difference between the two processors mentioned, you will however discern a big difference between the two video cards.

If your looking for some serious BF2 action then considering dropping the ram on your 9300 to the lowest amount selectable (then purchasing 2 sticks of 1GB) after that proceed to drop your cpu to 2ghz for cost effectiveness. You will hardly notice the 133 mhz drop.

I play BF2 on my 9300 at 1600x1200. D810 will probably run it at 1024x768, 1280x800 if youre lucky

You'll have no problems with BF2. As for being the luckiest 14 year old, I was luckier 6 years ago when I was 14.

Well I went with the I9300. From the looks of the posts here I should be happy. Any suggestions now for what to do when I first receive the box from dell? (i mean as far as OC, memory, backup, upgrades, etc.?)

X600 = 800X600 medium settings at best, 6800 = FUN!

I definately say get 9300, format, enjoy. Sure you don't get to start playing for an extra hour or so setting everything up, but most all of the dell fecal matter will be gone.
