New Ferrari 4000 3A23 BIOS

It's avaliable on the Panamerican support site:
http://support.acerpanam.com/synapse...words=&pupv=pu

The BIOS date is 10/24/05. There is no release notes that I know, so no idea on what has been changed from the previous ones

It can be flashed either using the Winflash utility or the DOS one (phlash16.exe). I did the 2nd way since I have XP x64 and I don't think the Windows utility will run on it.

Happy flashing

does this bios update fix the ram problem?
And I don't find the fan loud, its quite quiet compared to my desktop and I have to be trying to hear it, to hear it.

I am running WinXP x64 too, but when I tried to load the PHLASH16.exe, it tells me that it can not function with memory managers running I.E. HIMEM.SYS.

But I don't see any memory managers in my boot disk?

Can a BIOS update not be done with a boot disk made by XP x64?

Please help.
Thanks.

For PHLASH16.exe I used a clean Windows 98 boot disk on a USB memory drive.

There's an HP utility for preparing that setup easily. See here http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/20306.html

These ones are the boot files I used: http://aaltonen.us/downloads/HPUSBFW_BOOTFILES.zip

Finally set the BIOS to boot from the USB drive (Enter the BIOS with the USB drive connected, go to boot options, select from Hard disks first, add the USB drive *before* the hard disk) and you are done.

Thanks a bunch aromanos.

Wierd too how the flash program beeped constantly through the update process.

Anyway, still no DDR-400 (PC3200) support.

And now, my CPU is reported at 1989.8 MHz, with a 199 MHz front side bus.

But, it seems, at-least right now, that my CPU utilization has dropped.

Mine also runs at 795.9MHz with a FSB at 199MHz. Also the RAM runs at 159.2MHz instead of 166MHz.

So basically this bios release just downclocks our laptops so as to get better battery life?

If so is there a way to go back to A321 BIOS?

Forget about my coment regarding CPU utilization.

And to get the 3A21 BIOS back, just reflash with that BIOS image.
