The BIOS date is 10/24/05. There is no release notes that I know, so no idea on what has been changed from the previous ones

It can be flashed either using the Winflash utility or the DOS one (phlash16.exe). I did the 2nd way since I have XP x64 and I don't think the Windows utility will run on it.

Happy flashing
10/24/05??? When I go there the date reads 11/23/05

This 3A23 bios is a shit!
It's incredible...Acer doesn't want to release a serious bios!!!!

I never installed this bios because other guys here in Italy told me of the problem!

However, are you sure that in the bios 3A23 there are not new options?

Well I posted the news because the BIOS was made available to download on Nov 23. My guess is you were lucky enough to get a recently manufactured machine

The web page was updated on Nov 23 *but* the BIOS date is a different thing. It takes a few weeks of testing to release a version, that's why the date of release and the build date on the BIOS don't match.

For all the people complaining this is not a "serious" update. Well I'm with you, but I don't think the PC3200 support and fan are "problems". Be realistic, the notebook works as advertised and those ones are not bugs, they are an upgrade of the specs. I really wish they ended doing it though.

I have no idea and I would like to ask you all if you know any Turion notebook that will work with a stopped fan?

Acer Aspire 5024 is a Turion Laptop that work with a stopped fan.

I actully fashed my bios when I got my machine over a month ago and it was with this bios. I notice no differance expect it changed the bios picture. Also every other notebook I have seen and heard of that has Turion the fan turns on and off the acer is the only one that always stays on and the fan is really load compared to any other notebook I know of. For god sakes my old HP ZE1000 is quiter and also the fan is temp controled and never comes on because I use RM CLock to keep it at 500mhz most the time as with the Ferrari it is always at 800mhz and powerplay is always at battry optimized mode and it still runs BF2 great. So the fan does not need to consontly run at a high speed like it does.

I see. In fact, Acer might have done something wrong with the heat management and/or fan control. The fan seems to be temperature-controlled but I believe it to be an independent subsystem and not controllable from BIOS or ACPI, thus there might be no possible fix Take a look at http://www.detla.de/index_ferrari.html under ACPI for some reasoning.

It works fine for me too. The clock seems to be slightly down-clocked for no aparent reason. I guess they fixed a few oscure bugs or there would be no reason to release a new version since there is no new functionality included.

It's a shame Acer won't reveal the change log of the BIOS

No problems here. My RAM is clocked at 166 Mhz according to A64 Tweaker and AMD Clock shows CPU from 800 Mhz to 2000 Mhz. However, RM Clock is showing CPU Core Clock at 796 Mhz, but it also shows CPU Model as Unknown, so....

RM Clock does not fully suport the Turion CPU yet due to the fact that AMD has not released the public documation for the Turion line. Also EVERest Shows CPU at 800mhz and memory at 166mhz RM Clock shows CPU at 796mhz. But RM Clock shows model right.

download the new version of rmclock!!!
it supports Turion processor and doesn't show it as an unknown processor

I have the new version but according to the people that made RM Clock it does not fully support the Turion CPU yet. Read they're Forums they mention somin about publics docs not released yet.

oh I understand....
Perhaps it's for this reason that also using rmclock with low CPU voltage (0.9V) I haven't more battery life!

I have noticed that too also just as a note up your voltage to 1.000 you will noticed a better system response expecially when in automatic mode. And battery will be the same as if in .900
