2nd toshiba I experienced is piece of ***t.

Thread Starter
After my first toshiba laptop experience, I was very satisfied with Toshiba laptops.

When my girl was shopping for a laptop less than a year ago, I recommanded
her to get Toshiba so she did.

Now this laptop SUCKS. its obviously a defect. Laptop's cooling system
must be bad, it overheats and turns off by itself. Heating gets so bad,
sometimes keyboard is too hot to touch, and you can possibly can get hurt by touching the bottom of the laptop because its so damn hot. You get the idea.

We talked to Toshiba, and got it fixed twice.
1. Toshiba told us to go to authorized repair center locally. Fixed.
2. A month or two later, same problem. Laptop over heats, turns off.
3. We called Toshiba, this time they told us to send the laptop direct to them.
4. Whole process took less than a week, fixed. Good.
5. Now, its been few months again, and same exact problem is happening again.

me and my girl is SICK and TIRED of this stupid laptop causing this problem.
This is third time, thats a strike out. And each time, its exactly the same damn problem.

Now, Toshiba's 1year laptop warranty is ending in a month. If this crap happens
again after we get it fixed and warranty will be expired, we are screwed.

is there anyway I can apply this to a law or something, make sure we get
a brand new laptop(replacement)? Who should I talk to when I call Toshiba?
I know they are going to give me same BS, "send it to us".

Be aware that this is the only computer source she has it at home, and she does
all the work in this laptop. So everytime this laptop is in shop getting fixed,
its quite a pain for us.

I thought about laptop cooler, but what is the point of that if the laptop
portability is disabled? Her laptop can't be carried around because for one, its
too hot and shuts itself off every other minute, and for two, power source
must have problems sometimes when you plug the connector in to charge the
battery and use laptop mean while, computer will either shut off or don't turn
on at all(something wrong with power).

My toshiba laptop works PERFECTLY fine and I absoutely love it. I just feel
so bad that I recommanded my girlfriend the same brand and she is having
so much trouble with it.

first thing is first, what model does she have that way we can provide a bit more specific help on it...

as for the chances of getting a new machine at the end of the warranty i wouldnt hold out alot of hope for it but there is some chance. im not totally sure who to talk to at tosihba for it though because i have never had to deal with that kind of issue before.

lets see what we can come up with here before we go too overboard... give us the model number and we can make more specific suggestions.

Yeah, not too fond of Toshiba support. Dell has gone down too, but it works after you have to repeat yourself a million times until they understand you. As for HP, it's they've gotten much better lately. Asus, of course, is much better, no need for electronic operators.

as opposed to slaging the support of toshiba and praising other manufacturers, lets work on getting this guy some help with his issues cause i dont think that this post on your part is really productive at all....

As mentioned before, you neglected to mention what model this laptop is. Does your daughter use this laptop on her lap or on a desk. If on her lap, bed or other soft location, the intake or exhaust fan inlets/outlets are covered and it is not getting good cooling air.
Another option if you feel this may be trouble over the next year or so, Toshiba offers a two year extension warranty for about 270 Cdn. Cheap for trouble free piece of mind.

can you take some pictures of the air intake area?

and as the others posted....more info please.

Sorry, but I thought it was already covered. Well first off, did you see at first hand the constant shutdown/restarts? Were all incidents when they were working on a flat surface? Even if it was covered and got unusually warm, it shouldn't be doing that. The best thing to do is see exactly how and when it would do that and inform Toshiba and get an RMA. You know it wasn't an ongoing thing and it was fixed before. They have to do the same thing again (mostlikely its the components on the motherboard). I've seen this instance before on a couple HP's (business class- not user changeable). Of course it was out of warranty, so the user sold it on eBay for parts.
The dilema is to get it fixed, buy an extended warranty (if possible since it's past 30 days), or just go get a new one. You'll have to balance out the cost and headaches of your decisions. But summary- you should send it back. If it was fixed before, it can be fixed again... hopefully not for temporary time.
