How to test for bad pixels?

Well i will be buying a 5720 in december. I figured that instead of buying $200 no dead pixel insurence i will just take advantage of the no questions asked return policy, and then buy a new one if i have any dead pixels. does this seem like a good plan? Now the question is how to test for them? just set my whole backgroudn to white and look for one that isnt lit?

That is a good idea chrisbooth

According to Sagernotebook.com statements

Sager Quality
Every component of a Sager PC is checked, then rechecked, to ensure system integrity. Then each computer is tested for a full 96 hours, in two separate procedures, to certify system excellence. Sager's state-of-the-art testing facility ensures that your portable PC will perform to Sager standards.

It would be informative what kind of checking and rechecking they do... Perhaps there is a flaw, that is why it seem so many are concerned on defective Sager laptop, warranty and return shipping costs for defective laptops as noted in the thread on customer service of sager resellers..

Perhaps aside from the lcd, the whole laptop should be tested by the end user themselves--- a more rigorous one...

Do a google search, and download Dead pixal buddy. Its a simple program that runs through different colors on your lappy screen in order to show a dead pixal

I concur with smoky, Dead pixel buddy is a great small free utility just for that purpose.

Be careful with DEAD PIXEL apps like this, there is one floating around for the PSP that I have heard from a few people actually caused more dead pixels then the users already had. I realize this may be different, just be careful...

I say don't be cheap and guarantee yourself some piece of mind and just grab the "Dead Pixel Guarantee". Some think it's stupid, I say it's all how much a dead/stuck pixel would annoy the given individual. I have seen enough lappy's come right out of the box with dead pixels to justify an extra $200. All I can say is I am glad I got the guarantee, bottom line...

I find it hard to believe software could induce a hardware dead pixel...

Are Sager notebooks obtainable in Europe? Thanks! I wouldn't mind ordering the one Codename_47 did.

Actually it's not hard to believe at all for me... If you have an app that cycles your pixels over and over for 12+ hours at a time, this is not a typical usage for an LCD. The PSP tool litterally does just this, the theory was that if you "Strobed" your PSP stuck pixels long enough, you might be able to correct the issue by "Unsticking" the pixel. The problem is that some PSP's seemed to be corrected by this and for some the issue got worse, which is completely logical.

So I doubt very seriously a "Dead/Stuck Pixel Finder" app would be of any concern. However, be leary and skeptical of stuck pixel correction software...

This is all I am saying...
