Temperature Range (degrees Celcius) according to MobileMeter:
> CPU: 40 - 54
> Hard Drive: 39 - 44

I took the plastic PCMCIA place-holder/cover out when I first turned the notebook on, and I do notice a slight breeze coming out of it, so apparently this does help with airflow. I have not used the computer or taken any measurements with the plastic cover in place, so I don't know how much of an effect this actually has.

I still have that film in place and CPU running at 58C consistently just surfing. I am still awaiting a reply if removing it would void warranty.

Nishlia, would you please let us know the result of your reply?

Sager is currently instructing customers experiencing problems to unscrew the bottom of the laptop, unscrew the heatsink, and check for the film.

So, it won't void the warranty if you try it. And I can post the email + photos that I was sent if anyone wants the instructions a la Sager.

To clear up any confusion that there may be, the technicians did not tell me to replace the thermal pad with another compound. They are accepting RMA's unless they say differently. This email was to help analize the problem. That said:

While discussing your case with other technician, they suggest you check the
heat sink of the computer. I took 3 pictures to show you the heat sink.

You need to remove 11 screws on a big cover at the bottom of the computer.
Open the cover. You can see the computer as shown on picture-1. Look the
picture-2 to remove 4 screws in the red circle. Then you can lift the hest
sink as shown on picture-3. If you see a plastic sheet covers the black
thermal pad, please remove it. It may solve the problem with this computer.

fozzylyon, now you have me confused when you say that: ''the technicians did not tell me to replace the thermal pad with another compound.'' If you remove that plastic film/strip, you thereby remove quite a bit of compound and it would have to be replaced. What will you do?

I have noticed, over a period of days, that when I start the laptop, most of the times the CPU will show at 50C and other times, the CPU will show at 36C.

Still would like to hear from Luke to see if it is OK to go in there and check it out without voiding the warranty. Luke? :-)

What about putting AS5 on the 7800? Seems to me that a lot of the heat during gaming would be coming from that... Has anyone tried that yet?

Love the cat - just make sure you keep the cat hair out of your intake vents on your lappie or you are going to have issues!

But otherwise a very nice looking cat

Hey Pinibo, is the white thing there what you put AS5 on?
The white stuff is the AS5.
I put a call to Sager on Saturday and will wait for them to call back. I am sure that I have that plastic strip also but do not want to open before I talk to them.

They merely told me to check for the plastic, they didn't tell me to replace the pad with grease. I'll ask the technicians about using AS5, but they definitely recommend checking to see _if_ the plastic is there.
