2GB or 1GB for 9300?

Hello!

Only 2 posts, but they will definitely increase when my 9300 arrives!

Just an upgrade question:

I will buy it with the standard 2x256 RAM and I will add more by purchasing additional sticks from NewEgg (probably).
The problem is that 9300 has only 2 So-Dimm slots, so I will have to remove one 256 to put a 1GB stick.
So I was wondering if adding 2x1GB sticks would make any significant difference, considering the larger amount of RAM (1,25 -> 2GB) and the dual channel activation.
I would like to know if someone has noticed an increase in performance with dual channel enabled!

Thanx!

2gb all the way.
although people will generally said 2gb will be overkill; however, if you game, u will most likely need the max memory to run it as smooth as possible.
That is my opion. Beside you could always sell those 2x256 for some amount of money, albeit it is not much.

Dual channel gives you a boost, but not very much and not very noticeable. But if you're talking about a difference from 1gb to 2gb, of course you'll see a very big increase. If you've got the money, then go for it.

2gb all the way...

I have 2GB and I really use the hell out of my computer so the free memory is almost alway under 50%, and sometimes much less. If I had 1GB, it would be hitting the swapfile all the time and that would suck.

I game as well, and while most games play fine on less than a gig of free memory (personal experience, not opinion) some can really use the 2GB, like WoW, BF2, and others.

I am thinking CS:S would run smoother on 2GB. I got 1GB of ram and CS:S runs not as smooth as i expect.

Half life 2/cs source doesnt utilize more than a gig. Bf2, Fear and MMORPGs are what really will utilize 2 gigs, if you arent playing those games than 2 gigs wont do much for you.

so you will notice a big difference between 1.25gb and 2gb when playing WoW?

for real?

cuz that's one of the reasons why i bought the lappie.. aside from doing my project management work during the day of course!

2gb

You will notices a lack of slowdowns in bf2. 1gb doesn't cut it for bf2 on a notebook hdd (low rpms). I've run WoW on anything from a 256mb pc with an mx440 to a 2gb ram pc with 6800gt. There isn't that much difference, wow doesnt seem to be such a resources hog. But yeah, 2gb all the way!

WoW is not that bad. Even on battery the 6800(overclocked)/7800 should be able to run max resolution max visual quality. It also doesn't hit the HD too much.

BF2 needs 1.5-2gb of ram if you want to play it at nice resolutions.

I play EverQuest still, think of me what you will!

Anyway, on my desktop, I had 1gig DDR433 dual channel. I lagged in raids a little. It was irritating. My desktop is no bleeding edge machine, but it's not a slacker either. Only P4 3.2GHz, 6800Ultra 256 and the 1gig corsair DDR433 (WD 80gig 7200RPM 2MB cach HDD).

Then I bought a Logitech G15 GAMING KEYBOARD . If you didn't already know, this keyboard has its own display. That dispaly shows CPU and ram usage. From that I saw, my ram usage was at a constant 75% or greater for usage, sometimes even exceeding 90%.

I saw a deal for 2x1gig stick of corsair XMS DDR400 for @$250 and bought it. Now with 3gigs total, my ram usage has dropped to like 30% on the keyboard display and more importanlty, the lag I use to get is nearly unnoticable . I thought it would be a while longer before going over 1gig gave any noticable difference. That 1gig was still fine for everything and games never use near 1gig, but after seeing the difference moving from 1gig to 3gig (possibly, 2gigs or even 1.5 would have been enough), I am sold that 1gig is the bare minimum now (at least for me, but I am spoiled).

Yes, 2gigs is worth upgrading to.

slightly off topic, but damn.. that's one funky keyboard!

can you customize it to show your FPS, or CPU temp and such? that'd be realllly neat..

2 gb all the way. I had 1.25 and upgraded to 2 gb and immediately noticed a significant improvement in WoW along with other memory intensive games.

I noticed a big difference in WoW between 1GB and 2GB. With 2 there was no stutter when first going into the game or switching to new areas, and I can alt-tab in and out of it all I want with no swapfile lag.

Well, thank you all guys for the replies, you have been most helpful!
To be honest, I don't play WoW, but I DO play BF2, FEAR, NFS and any good game in the genre FPS/RTS/NFS , especially in LAN.
So I estimate that 2Gb would definately become even more useful in future games and I think that the extra 80$ is well worth it (especially for a lappy with total price reaching $1350 - the increase is barely 5%)
