Thanks for the link, looks interesting.

The ability to use purevideo is a huge plus. Pv's image quality is awesome.

nVidia's PureVideo

Lith1um I guess this is directed at you since you keep bringing it up
Whats the point in using and paying for nVidia's PureVideo? I mean I currently use the free Media Player Classic and have installed the DivX Codec and Player. Using these I can play anything I've tossed at it without any problems. Whats the advantage of spending 20, 30 or even 50 bucks on PureVideo?
Also looking at the site and the 3 packages, which do you recommend if I were to use it? The best choice looks to be the Gold package at 30 bucks as it only lacks the DTS saving you 20 bucks over the Platinum but gaining DD5.1, DPL2 and Dolby headphone support for 10 bucks over the Bronze.

If anyone can get purevideo decoder to work with the 6800go, please post here. I've had no luck getting this decoder to work on the dell 9300.

I'm certain Lith1um has the 6800GO card.

I just like the image quality of purevideo. It's really quite clear and the colors are good. I may be crazy, but I think I can easily see the difference. I've never used dvix player though. Supposedly purevideo hardware accelerates video in a manner that other codecs dont have access to. Im not sure if it's true or nv marketing. I do know it has lower cpu utilization than straight dxva acceleration did, so it must be off loading something to the 6800.

I bought the gold version too, my speakers do dts so I can always use spdif pass through if I want dts. The speakers will decode it instead.

I recommend downloading the purevideo trial and seeing if you think it's an iq improvement. Record a mpeg hdtv clip with your fusion, then play it back with pv. Imo it looks better with pv, maybe Im crazy.

You can tell if pv is running by checking the taskbar for the pv icon. I have only used pv with mce's interface and wmp10. Pv works in certain other apps though, like watchhdtv and gotallmedia as posted by Snazzy.

Tb,

dl the following app and set pv as the prefered decoder.

Also make sure you are running the latest vid drivers and pv version.

check nVidia's ftp server,

ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/

Good luck.

I am just waiting for my Fusion to get here. Not sure how long they take to ship.

OK, I am confused

Have a 9300 on order, and am trying to decide what tuner to buy. Looks like the Fusion5 is it, but from many of the posts here state I will need another tuner for it to be compatible with MCE. On the DVICO site, it claims that the fusion IS compatible,

"Works with MCE & 3rd Party Applications
FusionHDTV5 USB Gold works with Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 and many other 3rd party media center softwares, such as Show Shifter, Power Cinema and SnapStream Beyond TV. Take advantage of the user-friendly Media Center for watching digital TV while browsing through other multimedia files on your PC. FusionHDTV5 USB Gold allows you the options of watching and recording high definition TV within the MCE environment or using its own FusionHDTV software."

Their site says nothing of needing another tuner, Which is correct?????????

The fusion HDTV tuner does work with MCE (assuming you can get it installed without destroying your system). But you also need an ANALOG tuner installed before it will even talk to the HD tuner.

FYI.. perhaps this will help people interested in only HD for MCE: I was able to install the fusion driver for MCE by installing the fusion software, then uninstalling it. Left behind was just the pieces needed for MCE without all the other hideous sw that causes all the problems. Good luck. More info on this fusion over at avsforums HTPC section.

Making the Connection

OK, looks like my charter cable set-top box, the Dell angel tuner, and the Fusion5. Trying to figure out how to connect them all up in order to view on my 9300. Any ideas???

pita! wish i could help, but my bro had a bunch of problems with his cable box, so he just ran the coax to the tuner, ill update if he makes any progress

Cube... do you have an IR blaster set up to control your cable box for you? Because I dont' see the point of your setup right now. The Fusion would record digital channels and the angel tuner would record analog channels. No need to mix a cablebox into that setup. Just run a cable from the wall to right before the tuners and split it about 1 foot before the tuners.

Remember that each time you split a line you're dropping the signal strength. So if you're in an older house... measure your signal noise and line strength before splitting your signal all over the place.

If i do not have the cable set-top box connected in, and just use the Angel and Fusion, would I still be able to view the premium movie channels that i pay for?
No, you would not gain access to those channels. The Fusion can not "descramble" your cable companies preferred channel protection method. The Fusion will "decode" the unscrambled digital channels... such as Discovery in HD and the such that are in the 100-400 channel range (typically). In order to view your buffet of movie channels you will need to tie your digital cable box into the S-Video or RCA Video-In on your Angel Tuner (not too familiar with the hookups on the back of that unit... but you should have one or the other). Then you will need to install a compatible IR blaster. This device will change the channel on your cable box to the appropriate channel when needed so that the Angel tuner just records whatever is being sent to it.

looks like an awesome tuner
There is not much information in website.. Is that work only if you have HDTV cable from comcast or whatever? Or is it like converting your cable into better quality that close to HDTV(w/ the included antenna)? That's not logical, but possible, I guess...

pls check out my post for TV tuner question/suggestions:
