do you need to condition dell batteries?

last time when i bought a dell (4 yrs ago), i was told that you need to condition the battery -> drain it to almost no charge, then charge the battery to full.

do you still need to do this w/ the 9300?

in my experience w/ the various lattitudes that i have currently (none of which i did this since i didn't buy the machine, got 'em from work), the battery all started to fail in yr #3 (doesn't hold charge anymore, can't charge to full, etc)

so what do you guys to when you get your laptop? (aside from reinstalling the OS)

Do you remove the battery from the laptop when running on fixed power?

From what i remember, lithium ion batteries don't have "battery memory", and, in fact, perform better topped off at all times. However, I don't think it matters much, since i've had dell laptops since 1996, and none of the batteries lasted more than 2 yrs. My last one (i8200) lasted < 1 yr.

Per the Dell user manual... Leave the battery in for best performance.

heh, this is why i got the 3 yr warranty.. every laptop i have, i've got 2 batteries, and EVERYONE of them have failed prolly about 1-2 months into the 3rd yr. the laptop that i'm typing this thing on, a dell c640, the 2 batteries last less than 20 minutes -total- when off the power, since it's a biz lease and i'm just about off the lease, i'm not gonna worry about it..

i really hate the fact that with all these advances in other aspects of computing, the batteries STILL haven't progressed much.
