9800 mobility overclock - locked?

ok, first off, i tried searching everywhere for a answer. maybe i wasn't looking for the right thing, but i had no results.

second i'm unsure if this is the proper forum for a general issue with a video card, my laptop is a dell xps1 but maybe someone with a toshiba had this issue.

I have the 'wonderful' 9800 256meg mobility. i was having issues installing the newest cats then i came apon a program from driver heaven, YAY. during my search i find out that this card is a underclocked x800 and i can supposably over clock it with very little tempature increase, that sounds great as i do play high end games. i tried ati tools first, i'd oc it, and run a game to test it, when i quit the game not noticing any improvment i find it reverted back to its stock settings. thats the issue, i tried 3 other oc problems before i found info about cards being locked, i should have checked all the settings in ati tools and i may have realized it sooner, but when i tried the unlock option in ati tools and rebooted, tried the overclocking again it still reverts.

anyone have solutions?

really no one else experienced this?

I dont know how the cards are now but back when they first launched these cards were not locked to a specific clock setting so perhaps the issue your having is driver related? Or something went wrong down the road using one of your utilities so go back and double check what you have installed and see if any of them are applying themselves correctly. I personally used ATI tool but that was then.
