ok a couple questions
1.doom 3 I can put it up to medium quality at 1024x768, and it runs smooth and nicely, but what happens if I put it up to high quality at 1024x768? would it fry my card?

I unfortunately have the ati mobility radeon 7500,

2 does any one have a ThinkPad r40? I am looking to upgrade my video card to at least 256mb does any one know how? does any one know what kind of card it is? does any one know where inside the laptop it is?

3, ok when I first got my comp it came with 256 mb I have upgraded it to 512; it can handle up to 2gb!!!woot I know 512mb +512=1024 but is that 1 gb???
lol thank you all very much for any help that you can give me

Video Card upgrade not possiable on your laptop.

It wont fry your card but it might run like crap try it and see.

You just dont have a gameing computer your CPU and GPU are your bottle necks the Ram will help but it is not going to turn it into a gameing COmputer.

It WILL run like crap. Darq's right. That card has no chance of running Doom much higher. You could try running it in a window at high settings. Might run smoothly.

Here's my specs:

3.4 GHz Pentium Prescott CPU
2 Gig Crucial RAM
Mobility Radeon 9800

Runs Doom 3 full screen at 1024 x 768

Advanced video settings, you ask?

Ultra.

Bye-bye.

Just enjoy it for now and save up for a gaming rig.

But before you take a bite of that sandwich just ask yourself if you are going to have the time and the opportunity to use your laptop for gaming only. If the answer is yes then start working and saving. If the answer is no then keep what you have and save that money for something else.

good luck either way
