Hi,
I want to get a notebook with a decent processing speed and battery backup..one that does not start giving problem in a couple of months...
I have been going about reading reviews and configs and zeroed on 3 noteboons..also considering my budget...that arnd $1300
help me choose between Acer TravelMate 4654LMi, DELL Inspiron 6000 and DELL XPS M140. I have made sm customizations in the DELL notebooks like a DVD-RW, WXGA TrueLife™ LCD Panel and single dimm 512MB RAM. While the ACER config is flawless(2GHz,1GB RAM,100GB HD Disc)...and all three will finally cost arnd $1300.
Also I mite need Windos XP profession which is free in Acer but will hv to pay extra 200 in DELL.
Acer seems to be the best option but i am fearing for its performance as it sounds too cheap to be true...

If you're gonna choose between those, I'd recommend the Inspiron 9300, unless you don't want a 17" screen. But the 9300 will perform just as well as the rest of those plus have a larger screen. The 9300 comes with Media Center 2005 as the standard OS. Don't be scared away by this. Media Center is XP Professional with the Media Center application embedded in it. You actually have to pay extra to go from media center to xp pro, so its better to stay with MCE even if you don't ever plan to use any of it's features.

I tend to agree with IceBreaker, I looked at acer and the 6000 from dell, if you get a 1.73ghz cpu or 1.86 ghz, you wont notice any difference between these and a 2.o ghz processor, The acers are not built as well as the dells, the screens are darker and have less contrast than the 6000 or 9300. The 9300 is only a little bigger, half an inch deeper and an inch wider, gives you much better graphics, see my signature for the specs on my 9300 which I paid 1477 for with a 30 percent off dell web coupon. You get a much more powerful laptop with the 9300 for nearly the same price. Ive seen recent posters who bought 9300's with better specs than mine for 1200 bucks.

I disagree with Icebreaker on the Media Center Edition, contrary to popular belief, IT IS NOT BASED ON WINDOWS XP PRO, the price should tell most people that, Microsoft reportedly did release with xp pro initially but that is no longer the case and if you do your homework you'll find that im right about this.

Anyhow, I would go with a dell, get a dedicated graphics solution, not an integrated and like Icebreaker said, you really ought to look at the 9300, Im glad I did!
