Just ordered Go-l Hollywood! - Page 2

It's nice they're going to overnight on Friday but depending who they use if it's not marked for Saturday delivery you probably won't get it till Monday.

Did the laptop catch the flu? That does seem a silly response. I guess if they have so many orders to fill and half their shipping staff (Larry) is out with the flu, then it will effect order fullfillment...

Yeah, what do they mean, "because of the flu"? It sounds like another scam company if you ask me.

I bet he cancels the order!!

I think they might have BUSTED him:
Read all about Medude's story right here - if it's true, we may never see him again!

What gives here. I thought that was a picture of aussie, now you tell me its MEDDUDE. Are they one and the same? Alter-egos? Dopplegangers? Is this what really happens when god divides an unreal number by zero?

I'd really like to see and hear that subwoofer! Unless it's at least 6inches in diameter your note going to get anything near subwoofer frequencies. I had a Nissan truck with an OEM 'subwoofer' in it. Once I took the POS apart I found it was a common 4" boombox woofer. No wonder it sounded like crap and bottomed out with only 100Hz audio going through it.

The specs look good but if your going to visit the website put on your hip waders and take a shovel because there's a ton of bullshizit to wade through. They have a great marketing 'spin' group because they make even the most mudane heatsink sound like it cools so good Satan is throwing snowballs.

Please let us know when you get it.

I hope it actually does come in, as it'd be nice to finally read something other than marketing hype. My gut feeling however, tells me that they are selling nothing more than a rebadged Clevo D470V (Sager 4780's if I'm not mistaken) with little-to-no actual custom hardware enhancements (sure, the mineral 'l' logo on the cover counts as custom hardware, but does it help performance?).

But like I said, I hope I'm wrong as it's always great to see companies pushing the technology envelope. Please do let us know when/if it does reach your door meddude.

There are several reasons why this is not a revamped 4680.
-Much thinner
-Dual Channel memory
-802.11g internal card

None of these are possible on the 4680. Do a side by side.

Just so you know, all puram is, is a solid state hard drive.

I'm sorry but this system has to be the same 4780

Much Thinner? 0.2"?
go-l: HxWxD 1.5"x15.4"x10.8"
Sager: HxWxD 1.7"x15.5"x10.8"

maybe they forgot to count the leg or the round thing on top.

Dual Channel Memory??
last i check the SiS 648FX doesn't support Dual Channel or else Alienware would not have pulled their clame

802.11g
i guess this is the only thing that we have to wait and see.

Sager 4680 = 2 USB 2.0
Sager 8790 = 3 USB 2.0 (Jan. release)
Hollywood = 3 USB 2.0

The Hollywood will run cooler & quieter with the heatpipe.

Who knows! The computer isn't even here yet and if I have to eat my words I will.

3 USB vs 2 USB

USB different can be answered by compairing sager and eurocom (eurocom floppy default model shows 3 usb port). the bay is fixed so there must be 2 bottom shells one with floppy and one with card reader, my guess is because the card reader uses one of the usb port and since it's the sager default model it only has 2 USB. the go-l model uses floppy as default so it frees up the third usb ports just like eurocoms.

if you look at the go-l site the heat sink picture it's the same one in adams review

Medude, just out of curiosity, how did you first find out about michaels computers (sorry to open an old wound)? Good luck with the new computer.

I will smash some bananas for you.

Been wondering about the Go-L/Hollywood debate myself. I'd have to say my thoughts are along with what Nakason said.

Hopefully you get what you ordered/hoped for. It's never good to hear about someone getting taken.

G'luck!

The dual-channel offering is rather dubious. On their architecture page, they show they're using a
SiS648FX northbridge (not the dual-channel SiS655FX) yet claim on the specs page that they're running dual-channel DDR400 and DDR433 memory.

As for the 1.5" height, yes, that's also consistent with the Clevo D470V specs, which if this is truly what this is, casts even more doubt that they are actually able to pull off a dual-channel memory controller.

Like I said I hope I'm wrong. But I guess we'll find out in a few days huh?

About a year ago I was looking for a desktop and typed in fastest computers in google. The 1st listing was Michaels Computers. Like many others I had a hard time believing what his web site claimed so I called him and got to talk with Michael himself for about 30 minutes. One of the success stories came from a man who lived 2 hours away so I contacted him. He bought his computer from him 3 years back and still liked it and had no problems-ever with it. I did not order one of MC because of price alone.

The only reason I ordered an MX51 a month ago is for the fact that I used my AMEX card which guarantees full refund within the 1st 90 days if unsatisfied. So I figured I had nothing to lose with that guarantee. That is why I ordered a Go-l Hollywood, because I was able to use my AMEX. Trust me, if it is not all that it is said it is then it is going back and I will wait for the Sager 8790.

The TENSION gets thicker

The PLOT gets quicker

Let's hope the RESULTS aren't sicker

If its all its hyped to be, That'll be slicker

Meanwhile there's no reason to bicker

Just to be devils advocate. His best story is from a guy who lives within 2 hours of him? Is it his sister's husband's brother? I didn't think this company existed 3 years ago, that was started off much of the 'vaporware' thread. It'd be nice to see what arrives at your doorstep.
