Fujitsu-Siemans M3438G memory upgrade - Page 2

Those hong kong deliveries take forever too...Funny you should mention Ebay coz thats where i got mine (tight a*se) I bought 2 1gb samsung 533 chips for £89 total which replaced my 2 512mb 400mhz chips..I've been expecting blue screens and lots of problems (the guy sent the memory chips together in 1 envelope and no anti-static bags)but its been ok and passed all memory tests so i've been lucky..
anyway i presume the samsung 400mhz chips that i removed from mine are identical to yours so i did a search on the samsung site for the data on these
heres the link
http://samsung.com/Products/Semicond...K4T51163QC.htm

looks like CL (CAS Latency) rating is immaterial (the 400mhz is set to 333 i.e. CL3 , the 1 gig chips are set to 444 i.e CL4)and the voltage is set at 1.8v.
So any brand DDR11 400mhz CL3 1.8v 64mx64 will do for you to have dual channell

Oh yeah and you can still get the Everest home edition here

Thanks for that, but now that I have seen that you have bought 2GB for £89 I am tempted to just forget the 1 stick of memory and actually bight the bullet and fork out for full 2GB which I am assuming is running at 533Mhz.

I think that some research and checking of finances is required here!

Thanks for the links Amilo

If you do use everest can you (or anyone who has used it) let me know what info you get on the motherboard..as it is telling me i have mine is unknown (might be why the crucial memory scan doesn't work)

Quick update,

The Kingston UK site have the FS-M3483G now on their website and they have links to UK resellers.

Average price looks like £74 ex Vat for a 1GB stick
On PC Upgrader part no :Kingston KFJ-FPC165/1G comes in at a whopping £180.20 inc VAT & Delivery . Anyone know of some one cheaprer.
Don't really want to pay £180 quid just to play ET:Quake Wars when it comes out.

I like the smileys here!

Have decided to get one 51mb stick for now
I am guessing that this should do the trick.

Some one please tell me if this is wrong. Also has anyone actaully upgraded the memory?

Hi,

I'v upgraded the memory myself

I bought two 1GB Kingston valueram sticks @ 533MHz from ebuyer. The total price came to ~ £155 inc delivery. But apparently I've heard that it's better and faster to have the ram @ 400MHz - something to do with the FSB: DRAM ratio??
It is most likely that the ram that came installed will be two 256 modules, buying 1gb module and removing both of the 256 modules is the best idea, that way you you that your not mising speeds or densities. Also buy the 533 and then upgrade to 2gb later usingexactly the same ram. But you'll probably find that 1gb will be sufficient for most games since they are now more GPU dependant than CPU or memory dependant.

North East Peripherals George Street in Aberdeen have the Fujitsu Siemens Kingstone brand 2 x 1GB Chips for Amilo 3438G for around £130.00, hope this helps
