Old HP Pavilion N5250 Boot Issue

Thread Starter
Greetings. My friend has an HP Pavilion N5250 that he says is about 6 years old. I'm planning on selling it on ebay for him in "as-is" condition, but I wanted to write and see if anyone might be able to tell me whats wrong with it.

The symptom is that when you power the computer on the LED lights and the fan goes, but nothing ever shows on the screen, as far as I can tell it's not even posting. A scratchy, crackling sound comes from the speakers but no beeps. In this state I can't eject the cdrom drive. My thought is that it's the motherboard. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions on how maybe to get it working, I'd be glad to hear it. Thanks for your time.

Regards,
XSYLUS.
