mark one up for AW Customer Service...

Update: 12-19-05

*** UPDATE ***

Just an update, I received the following message in an Email i received on
12-19-05:

This e-mail is to inform you that your computer has been received into our
facilities.

An Alienware Technician will perform a series of diagnostic tests, to
identify and correct the
issues reported with your computer. He will take great care in ensuring
that your computer is
repaired and performing at our high standards.

I will continue to update this thread during the prepair process of my system.

Ps: I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and memorable new year!

Still Havent Received My System! >=\

By the way, some of you may have assumed that I abandoned this thread. However, the truth is that I have not updated this thread because of the fact that I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED my system from Alien Ware. I am greatful that they actually took the responsibility to repair the machine correctly, and offered to extend my waranty another 90 days after receiving my system; however it is taking "forever and a day" to get it back.

Anyways, this is just an "update" if you could call it that...

thanks for the update, so have they e-mailed? have you called?

darknight, you should NOT have removed the thermal pads. this was most likely your main cause of overheating. also upgrading your warranty would be a smart thing to do now that you back in warranty.

What?

He removed the thermal pads and now is blaming AW for overheating issues?

Where did you see he removed the thermal pads?
yeas, I agree - you might want to seriously think about extending your warranty to to 2 or 3 years Darknight ...

hope you get your AW back soon and all is good!

- Already replaced those lil thermal sticky pads in between the heatsink/cpu and heatsink/gpu with thin layers of polysynthetic thermal silver compound.

Hammer, I think this is what he is refering to.....at bottom of his initial post

Every time I read one of these threads it gets me to second guess my plan to buy an Alienware m7700 in the next several weeks.... but then Alienware Customer support always comes rushing to the rescue and helps make the customer happy.

I have learned one valuable lesson from reading these forums though (which will make it better on me, and better on the Alienware customer support people that I have to deal with God forbid that I have problems with my machine). I'm going to buy the 3 year warranty. It's a lot of money, but I think it will make things 100% easier if I were to encounter problems.

Please call tech support and document your issue. It is likely either a video card issue, or an lcd issue. They can walk you through some simple steps like making sure the cables are seated well, and see if they can't get your issue resolved now.

If it's the video card, they may be able to send one out to you so you can replace it yourself and get rid of the issue. I'm pretty sure if it's the screen, you'll either need to send it in, or you may be able to have a local tech come to your home and do the work.

wuhoo, Hammers right about getting the issue documented. You should do that as soon as possible even if you plan on waiting to get the issue fixed. can you post a photo/
