700m will not detect mouse

I did a search and I tried the suggestions to no avail.

I did a fresh install of XP on the 700m. Everything installed fine except that the laptop can't detect the usb mouse I attach (I've tried two).

I've installed SP2.
I've installed the chipset drivers (R58370)
I've initialized and re-initialized the mouse.
A USB drive and my Ipod can be detected.

It's just the silly mouse and It's driving me crazy.

Any help would be appreicated. Thanks all.

did you install the notebook system software (R96945) listed under "system configurations and utilities" in the drivers and downloads support page? this is needed for USB devices

mazzystar,

Did you try both USB slots?

I had a problem on 700m when it did not want to recognize USB mouse in the top USB slot.

I reinstalled XP SP1 slipstream from scratch, then installed Dell SNS software, then installed chipset drivers etc.

Essentially Dell SNS software needed to be installed BEFORE chipset drivers. It did a trick for me.

Now it works perfectly.

You might want to try it.

Good luck.

you need to uninstall all the usb devices and drivers first. then install the two files.
