Of course 5660 on the left, 8887 on the right.

It can't hang with the angle viewing of the new UXGA in the 5660, but it does look great!
thanks for the pics!! yeah the 5660 looks better than the 8887 but it looks like the 8887 is much brighter while keeping fairly good contrast. Thanks again

Looks great! Not quite as good on the viewing angles, but the brightness and crispness looks wonderful. Can't wait to see it in person!

view

looks like its better head on, worse at an angle .... but im not playing games from the side!... can't wait for a 3dmark2001 score on the 8887-x either

Hey PCTORQUE,
Could you post the numbers for the 8887 screen (contrast ratio, viewing angles, etc...) I'd just like to compare them with those of the 5660 screen.

Still struggling with this decision
Thanks

I'm trying to get them, but I can't find them and nobody seems to know them for sure yet. All I have is the model #, 262Kcolors, and... lol the resolution and size

wow...on both screens.......the 8887 looks to be a bit nicer direct on - colors look richer, but the viewing angles on the 5660 is just sick....i dont have any experience with the dell ultra sharp that everyone seems to love, but i dont see how anyone could ever complain about these new screens...and im sure they look 10 times better in person...

Sweet pics...I can't wait for mine to get here now. I am all for bad side viewing angles. Get on a plane sometime and sit by someone twice your age as you are playing Diablo 2. How many times have I gotten the 'you shouldn't play violent video games' lecture from some complete stranger sitting beside me being nosy.

This just makes the choice harder and harder, lol.

I wonder if Sager would ever let 8886 owners for a price send theirs in for an upgrade to the 16.1 uxga or perhaps sell a seperate uxga kit, similar to what Dells does.
You can always ask.
Can someone explain to me in layman terms why the 5660 has such great viewing angles compared to the 8887?
Layman's terms:
The 5660 got a new uber-uxga screen that is a step above the 8886/7's.

PCTORQUE, somewhere I saw that you said the 8887 UXGA shows 16.7M colors and the 5660 UXGA shows only 240k. Can you try a quick expirament for me? Draw a shape in a drawing program with a color gradient from white to dark blue.

I spoke with Dell, and they say the Ultrasharp shows 16.7M colors (Radeon 64mb 9000 with 32 bit setting), but I see color banding on my Ultrasharp (and I shouldn't at 16.7M colors). They told me it could possibly be a driver issue.

If the 8887 screen doesn't show color banding, I plan to buy one as I work with graphics professionally and I want to see smooth gradients when I am working.

I guess what I am saying is I believe true color depth is much more important than viewing angle for the average user as you'll almost always be viewing head on, but graphics in motion will never look as good if the color depth is lower (you'lll see odd pixelations and banding during motion).

So if I understand correctly, the brand new 16.1 inch UXGA on the brand new 8887 is NOT as good a screen as on the older 5660?

What about ARTIFACTS?

How does the 8887 UGXA 16.1" compare to the 5660's UXGA for MOTION?

I know it'd be a bitch to post, but we'll trust PCTORQUE's unbiased opinion...

Fire up a decent DVD in each and let us know! Or run some Q3 demo on each.

I'd like to know about DVD playback & FPS "smoothness" personally.

Just my $0.02 worth,

P.S.

When my 8887-x gets in, I'll run some benchies (if they haven't been posted already by then).

I should receive it end of Feb... it's being painted Hybrid....

great pics PCTorque, tahnx, it give me a harder point to decide, but I will choose the 8887 I guess, because all the other issues are better than 56xx. Bad for me to see the 8887 on angle view is too poor, damn, Great pics, to see really how it will se when i got mine as soon as i get some bucks.

Constrast and Brightness are great on 8887, shame to see 8887 on angle view is POOR.

Well, I wouldn't say it's that bad, the angle view of the original 5660 UXGA was worse. The pics I took are extreme angles and you'll find most LCDs wouldn' t look very clear from the point.

How are the "motion" tests going? Any new info there?

Cheers.
