Another 4780 Review...

Just wanted to share some quick thoughts and experiences with the 4780.

I ordered the 4780 last Wednesday, Decemeber 10th, 2003. Specs include 3.2GHZ, 1GB RAM, DVD-CDRW, 128MB Video, 17in Screen. I was surprised to have received it on Friday, December 12th!

The 4780 is just awsome... the speed, the look, the feel... and then you have the screen, thats a different story. Don't get me wrong, the screen was perfect, no dead pixs, color was great... but I was coming from a Dell Inspiron 8200 with an UXGA screen. The 4780 was so awsome, I thought I would give it the weekend to see if I could get use to the screen resolution... I do alot of web design/development and programming, not a whole lot of gaming (I did try BF1942 and DOD... they ran great).

Now it's Wednesday, December 17th, and I just sent the 4780 back to Sager. I really need that higher resolution. Once I get credited from PCTORQUE, I'll be ordering the 5680 from them, which I'm sure will be a much better fit for me.

I wanted to thank everyone throughout these threads for providing such great info for others trying to decide which notebook is best for them.

I'll update this thread as my saga continues.

Not much you can do if you are looking for a 1600X1200 than you need a UXGA. Personally I hate that resolution. It reminds me how bad I need contacts, and maybe a magnifing glass. Some people can see it and use it and it would make no sense for them to get a widescreen if they want UXGA. Good Luck with the 5680. Let us know how you make out with that one. The dead pixel problem is not as bad on the 17" as the 15" so I will give you a few lucky bananas.

Just ordered 5680

I just ordered the 5680 yesterday, with UPS Next Day Air (I doubt I get it on Saturday, prob have to wait until Monday). I had no pixel probs on the 4780, so I'm really hoping for no dead/stuck pix's on the 5680. Once your use to the 1600x1200 resolution, it's REALLY hard to go go with something less, but I agree, it can be a killer on the eyes after awhile (defining "awhile" by my terms... 12 straight hours staring at the screen)

Hey everyone... this is my first post ever. I hope it doesnt suck.

Anyway, I am a web dev professional and I am about to switch jobs and need to pick an awesome laptop as my primary machine to do just about everything.

I currently run a compaq Evo n800c (standard issue from our IT dept, so not my choice...) N-e-way, I have really gotten used to the 1400x1050 resolution on what appears to be a 15" screen.

Here is my question: I am basically decided on getting a 4780 or the Gateway version... but do you think I will be happy with its screen resolution? (slightly lower res on a larger screen than what I have now.) I think 1600x 1200 is too much, but 1024x768 sux and I love the widescreen aspect ratio.

What's your opinion. Screen quality is really important to me, but I love the rest of the 4780.

Your thoughts are much appreciated. Hope this didnt suck.

lol, I don't think that your content of the post sucked but I think your choice of thread does You would get a better response in the "Sager General" section.

it all depends on your preferences... if your face is like a foot away from the screen at all times then you will get annoyed with the 4780.. if you use it on a desk or further up on your lap then it looks great. i know i couldnt stand 1600x1200 on my 19" monitor... theres no way i could handle it on a 15".

Does anyone ever wonder what Sager does with all the laptops that people return. I don't see where they sell refurbed units. Correct me if I'm wrong but they can't sell returned units as new can they? Or are they?

Resolution is definitely a matter of preference, I like them all
