Only doom3 needs more power, so u'll ned to turn off fsaa and anisotropic via control pannel before playing, else, the fps will drop and will be unplayable.
How about BF2? Anybody?
Well 77.76 killed BF2 for me. I'll try 77.77 and let you know how I go. I don't use J's settings though. I tend to drop the slider to Quality, and disable global anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, and change them on a game by game basis. I also enable all "optimisation" (MIPMAP, trilinear, etc) settings in the advanced settings drop down menu. I have found HL2 plays just as smooth with 4xAA on as it does with it off. Doom 3 brings the machine to its knees with J's settings as he said above, so I mucked around with that quite a bit. BF2 was playing very well, but I'd love to be able to play it in 1680x1050. Seems to be limited to 1440x966(roughly) in the Demo anyway. Can anyone tell me if the retail version adds support for widescreen laptops?

I'll boot my machine up now and tell you, give me a minute (unless my boss walks in to my office).

You have your laptop in work? Or is it your work/play machine?
The highest res selectable in game on mine is 1280x960@60Hz so yea, it looks to be widescreen. I know when I use my AW (Benq 20.1") lcd screen at home it gives me standard options. I'm going to try the "forced resolution" method of starting the game to see if it will run in 1680x1050. Have to wait another 40 mintutes until lunch though.

It's my play machine. But my work is too cheap to buy a 3D modelling package so I have to use my own laptop for running my own copy of Pro/e and SolidWorks if I want my designs to be good. They use ME10 by CoCreate, talk about anitquated!!!! So I model things and do the FEA on my laptop and then export 2D .dwg files to my work "machine," which isn't even a CAD capable machine (video card sucks and it's got a celeron processor, I mentioned they are cheap right?) I play single player BF2 in my office during lunch. I tote it to work everyday.

Cheap is the word. Still though, you must be the envy of the rest of the office with their celerons. Did you get a quadro 1400 go in your machine or a 6800 go? (Sorry, just checked your machine link. Interesting that you got the 6800 over the quadro given you work in the CAD area)

6800, I didn't buy it to use at work I got it strictly for gaming. I'm just being forced to use it for work stuff because it makes my job easier. the 6800 runs pro/e and solidworks great (contrary to popular belief), good enough for me anyway. I feel like claiming the money spent on this laptop during tax time next year since I use it so much for work.

Luckily I'm a mechanical engineer so I don't have to use ME10 for anything but a layout. I really feel sorry for the drafters here because when I give them my designs to draw up I just give them a CD with all the projections, they don't have to do a thing. When they get stuff from other engineers it's either a hand drawn version or a hacked up ME10 version that they have to fix and do the projections for. My company for some reason can't see the cost savings or efficiency benefits in such things as technology though. Might explain why we only get small contracts with mom and pop companies and not the big ones like in my previous jobs for ExxonMobil and BP.

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
The 77.77 drivers are still killing BF2 and Painkiller. I've had to go back to 77.72 again!
that's why I'm sticking with the .72's, I know they work well. It got to be a pain uninstalling, reinstalling, resetting up settings and testing so since I found one that works to my satisfaction I'm sticking with it until somebody else has success with a later driver.

77.77 just realeased, not beta, driver from nvidia.

From now, due to major probs, i'll only post official nvidia driver with my tweaked settings.

Forceware guide 1.21 just realeased, includes new settings.
I'll try it with BF2 either tonight or tomorrow, whichever day I have time to unintall and reinstall the drivers.

Hey, I was glancing over your .inf file included in the guide zip file and I notice you may have left some stuff from the original file below the "Localizable Strings" section at the bottom, the very bottom, I think you may have overlooked it while deleting the unneeded stuff. If I'm wrong then disregard.

thermal utility

Clausse, i use the getthermal utility. For the D40EF IMPRESSA model.
The fan speeds can be adjusted perfectly manually.
However the trip mode thing does not work. I set fan speeds, but it keeps
working as in the factory setting. The only choice of the trip mode table that works is the temperature where the fan shuts off.

I know that i amy be asking much, but is there a possibility of releasing an updated version in the future which corrects this problem?

I noticed it is in the .inf file in the .zip driver file too.

I installed and ran BF2 last night and didn't touch your settings. everything runs relatively well, a slight choppiness when fire fights start happening though. Also, when riding or flying a helo or ground vehicle, the terrain starts to get really grainy and sparkly and then some choppiness during explosions. One things for sure though, when laying down by the water, you can really see the quality is topnotch, but once the war comes your way, things start to bog down. This could be due to 2 things though, my settings and resolution are set at the highest selectable in-game and your drivers is spec'd really high for quality. When I lowered my in-game settings and resolution things got a little better.
