If I read correctly, earlier somebody said that if you flash your BIOS it will "void your warranty"?!? Is this true? What about all the other drivers like the keyboard, etc. (obviously not the video or audio or pure software ones)

Also, should I take apart my comp to apply some different thermal grease, like artic silver 5? and to the vid card or cpu or both?

Flashing the bios without calling AW will void the warranty.

At my own opinion, i think it's lame.

It won't void the warranty if u update the driver.

Thermal grease should be applied on your video card, if it generates heats only.

Only do the AS5 if you have done this type of work before. Your laptop isn't something you want to be "learning" on.

Yes, that's true, only apply the as5 thermal grease on the keyboard key only if u already did this work before.

What? You aren't making sense.

Hello all, noobie here, recent Area-51m 7000 owner, arrived Sept. 13th to be exact. I have been reading the forums here for about 2 months which led me to buying an AW....any help with the bill would be greatly appreciated!! My question is how do you get into the Phoenix bios. and will I gain anything updating my bios. Upon boot up it says to hit F2 to enter the bios but that does nothing. Oh by the way absolutley no probems....the phases sucked but an awesome machine.

Just burn the bios to a cd and boot with the cd, dont't press f2 key, jut let your system booting.
Well I would like to ensure my boot sequence is correct. Wouldn't that be a good idea?

boot sequence order :

1. floppy
2. DVD
3. HD

This seems to be the better sequence u can choose.
Correct. If I'm going to create a boot disc (CD) with the updated bios then I would need to change my boot sequence to the CD ROM drive. THAT is why I would like to know how to enter the bios.

Normally, during boot screen, u should press F2.

Press more than once to be sure to press the key at the right moment.
Well if you will read my original post.....even though I hit F2 once or numerous times it still will not allow me to enter the bios. The computer continues to boot up into windows. That is why I was writing to this forum. Do you know of any others with this problem? Thanks jc!

During startup, press Num Lock key and retry to press F2.
That didn't work either???
start hitting the f2 key immediately after hitting the power button, if you wait till you see the prompt to hit f2 you will likely miss the time limit
post #440 of 481
This sometimes happens to me, and I find that rapidly hitting the delete and F2 keys in an alternating fashion right before the POST always gets me right into the Phoenix Utility w/o a hitch.

Hope this helps.
