Can't uninstall or reinstall Power Saver on M3

Hi everyone,

I (stupidly) tried uninstalling my working copy of the Toshiba Power Saving tools yesterday but got an error (A Fatal error has occurred. This program will be terminated. code: 0x2) when doing so. I tried reinstalling the program and the installation seemed to go ok, but after I rebooted the computer the Power Saver icon was not in the taskbar and the TPSMain.exe process was running insanely at 100% CPU. If I try to uninstall again I get the same error, then subsequent uninstalls fail with a message telling me that the uninstall file is corrupted. The only way I can get reinstalls to even start is to blow away the C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Power Saver directory, but then after I reboot I get back to the 100% CPU TPSMain.exe state.

To answer the obvious question, I've reinstalled the requisite Toshiba Common Module before installing the Power Saver but this hasn't helped. Can someone please help me resolve this? I've spent countless hours on this already and am getting nowhere.

Cheers,

james

To add some more information to my original post, I found the following on Toshiba's website:

http://tinyurl.com/a9f8b

Unfortunately when I did the first uninstall I was not in Safe Mode.

I have most recently tried installing power saver again (both in and out of safe mode), then tried uninstalling it in safe mode, but I still get an error when uninstalling. Am I destined to never have power saver again without reinstalling everything?

Do you know how to edit the registry? I would guess that the entry to start the process is here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run). TPSMain.exe
If you delete the tpsmain entry there, the machine should start. I would hope you could then reinstall the toshiba stuff

I have fixed it so that TPSMain.exe doesn't run on startup (using both MSConfig and HijackThis) so at least I can use the machine without TPSMain.exe running at 100%. If I then reinstall the power saver and reboot, TPSMain.exe is runs at 100% again. It seems like my uninstall has left something behind and subsequent reinstalls are corrupted somehow, but I can't get an uninstall to work without giving me an error. It's very frustrating.

The whole reason why I got into this state is because I wanted to disable TPS so that I could experiment with using RMClock to do my power management. It seems to do a pretty good job at controlling the processor, but I quite like the way TPS's profiles include things like screen brightness which are selected automatically in AC/Battery modes.
