I have the MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-845S Drive in my system. I have been doing some ripping of my collection into iTunes and seem to be noticing some buffering issues with the drive. Is there any updated drivers for this device that you know off?

Anybody else having similar problems?

I am now looking for a second drive to use in the system any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you.

Disc Media storage readers usually use the default windows drivers, they should not require any special one.
Look if DMA is enabled on the drive:
open the device manager and check the IDE ATA/Atapi controllers and open the primary ide channel, go to advanced settings tab and select DMA if available

You should check to see if there is updated firmware available for the drive. Most new optical writers of any kind contain firmware that can be upgraded. Its a driver that the drive uses internally and is transparent to Windows.

Hey thanks! I checked and Device 0 is using the Ultra DMA Mode 4 as its tranfer mode already. Device 1 does not seem to be on (nothing being used) as the tranfer mode is set to DMA but its tranfer mode indicates "Not Applicable".

I am looking to purchase a new drive, so if you have any knowledge that may help me find something nice with more than 2MB buffer, would be great! I don't even know what kind of interface it uses to connect to the laptop! lol

Thank you

That would be something to check at the manufacturers site only though, right?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's true, but if there are PC suppliers offering that drive as part of a PC they're selling, they'll might well have updated firmware at their site also. I looked for a matshita site but didn't find one in the few minutes I looked. Is it matshita or matsushita?

I found some recent driver stuff on the manuf. site: http://panasonic.co.jp/psec/support/dvdram/lim/eoem/

I tried to run the exe file and so no differences. It did install some DVD-RAM apps for burning though. Whatever.

I just picked up a Pioneer drive to complete the combo. People are giving it decent reviews and it seems to have some interesting tecnology. All I need to max out my laptop now is another stick of 1GB RAM.
