If we cannot use a hammer, then how do we get it to fit?

I always use a hammer... unless I need to pry something (then I use a screwdriver).

Right tools for the right job,

Who makes the mini-PCI wireless card? I'd be interested in using it with netstumbler, which works with the Hermes chipset, but not the Prism chipset.

'til PCTorque reveals the secret of what Sager uses, here's a quick search of wireless minipci adapters on Yahoo shopping. Tried pricewatch, but no luck.

http://search.shopping.yahoo.com/sea...:,did:,pf:,pt:

Since minipci's an industry standard, any of these should work. But at $93 for the cheapest one, I'm a little sceptical to be the first to buy.

Adam, would it be possible for you to take a macro shot of how the antannae plugs into the wireless card?

You are right, it sounds a tiny bit silly.
You cannot use the tv-coax-in as an external antenna extension for the 802.11 2.4GHz wireless internal antenna.

It's a good idea, though! From my experience, the built-in antenna is quite good, much better than a PCMCIA option (my wife uses a PCMCIA card to connect to our wireless network, and I always have a stronger signal).

Hope this helps,

dell offers a dual 802.11g/802.11a wireless pci card...unfortunately it cannot be purchased separetly from the system

wonder if there's a way to purchase directly from the manufacturer

ah, but if it uses the same type of format (75 ohm), you could mod the case and install a typical coax connector somewhere... that is a good idea... my belkin wireless card gets horrible reception i think primarily becasue of the horizontal position of the antenna. Apple was having the same problems with their original powerbook g4's, they installed the antenna around the bottom of the case, but when they started putting the antenna around the screen, they increased the reception by as much as 250%! I get like 10% signal stength at 40 ft. through walls.

What are the specs on this card? I know 802.11b but 11mbps 22, 54? what we looking at here. I use a dlink 22mbps now, and Id buy another one with no prob, but if the internal is 22 or better Id go with that. Price isnt so much the object as is speed.

Can we please implement a SIG size limit?

Not to knock Cartman, but jeeze dood, you should not have a SIG larger than your post (typically). Maybe if it was shrunk a little, you could put a link to the full-size one for those who would care to see it...

Getting better... might want to add something like "Screw you dial-upers" with that amount of sig.

For me, I was trying for one line only, but ended up much larger than I wanted.

Oh well.

Itd be nice if it were 22 like my dlink 802.11b pcmcia card is.

on the topic of sigs

Please be considerate for the peeps who have dialups. All those graphics are unnecessary for them - do away with the pretty pics

But I like the pretty pics - add the pictures to the sager pictures thread - will make for interesting viewing...
