Apple RAM?

Hello All- I was sent here by a friend who posts here. Here is my isha.

OK- So i really really find it unjust to pay $300 from the Apple store for a gig of RAM. Does their RAM really prove to be more productive than RAm by a company like Samsung?

I have been converted from a PC user to a MAC user, so I am breaking my MAC cherry and trying to learn the most i can about the hardware.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry- I know there is a topic about RAM above, but i guess i am trying to figure out if these other brands are just as good, if not better.
also- I am purchasing the G4 15in powerbook.

You should have no problem with RAM from other vendors. I've stuck with Crucial, but other brands work fine also. There are tons of posts on this in the Apple Support - Discussions forum. Just make sure whatever you get says it is compatible with your PowerBook and has a good warranty/return policy.

Can you install the ram by yourself, and if so, is it easy? I am switching from an alienware to a apple, so I am pretty much a noob when it comes to powerbooks and macs.

the PB simply requires the battery be removed and a plate taken off the underside. the iBooks are slightly more involved, as u need to pull the keyboard back, remove the wireless card, and then plug the RAM into the slot beneath it.

My opinion, anyone who pays Apple's price for RAM needs their head examined.

Thanks. Sounds pretty easy.

It is easy to change out the RAM - I've done it several times, and I am mechanically-challenged. Just make sure you have the right screwdriver so you don't strip the threads on the cover plate.
