New Sager 8790 Model release pics are up - Page 13

Adam, when will it be ready for pre-order?
i UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO RETURN MY 4780 FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

SHORT BATTERY LIFE
RAN TOO HOT
THE FANS RAN CONTINUOUSLY AND WERE LOUD AND ANNOYING
NO 54G

ADAM,

WHAT IS BEING DONE WITH REGARD TO THE FIRST THREE IN THIS MODEL?
the battery is being increased from 8 to 12 cells to give a 50% increase in battery life.

hopefully the graphics card will be actively cooled, as such the keyboard will not get as hot.

the 8790 fans will be just as loud as in the 4780
post #244 of 727
i can deal with fan noise...as long as its not louder than the laptop speakers!

what i do not want, is all that heat...i dont want to have to burn my hands...i dont think i'm too happy with the whole 'finger warmer' idea....that's what turned me off from the 8890...the fans blowing out the right side onto your mouse hand...

i've melted chocolate by accidently leaving m&m's sitting next to my 5660 (left fan side..)hehehe sucked!

i also am not too fond of what i hear about the 5680...that the keyboard 'bends' (or whatever) on one side....
i do notice on my 5660 that if i'm playing a newer game, something really intensive, i do feel the keyboard getting a bit warm..not to mention all the heat blowing out the fans...but at least i they are doing their job...

i'll be waiting for someone else to get the 8790 first tho, i'm too afraid to be a pioneer

We have no word on that yet. It may not even be a preorder situation - there may just be a release. You have our word that the moment we know anything at all, that we will let you all know.

The only info we have now is what we have had all along - January. We are all excited, so hopefully it won't be much longer. Thanks for your patience.

How come Adam doesn't get his butt off of that 4780 for a few hours, and play on the 8790 so we can see how it performs?
This is the one I am waiting for. Laura - I will pick mine up personally from PCT and if happens to be the first then I will write a review right there
Have 2G's and a little more for this laptop...hope I can make a nice config around that amount

Laura - I want to be the first to order this one...better email me beforehand tee hee

okej I see you that there are pictures and pictures on windows, could you not benchmark it? 3dmark 2001
and 3dmark 2003
There goes my personal guess:

- 3D2001: 13000
- 3D2003: 3600

Not overclocked ofcourse.
15700 on 01 . at least. that is, of course, assuming it is an actual scaled down r300 core... crossing fingers that it is...

The Case, Full Sized Keyboard w/Numeric Keypad, 17.0" WXGA Matrix Display (1440x900), Modem, 6 Channel External Speaker Output, and 10/100/1000 NIC are included.

I don't know if that price will hold after they are released to the general public.

The 8790 Dim is: 393*280*42 (3.95kg w/8-cell L-Ion battery [No Tuner])

The 8990 Dim is: 360*299*54.5

The 4780 Dim is: 393*280*37.7

Dims and weight were provided by M-Tech

Looks good to me - just add the wireless card, another 60GB 7200RPM HDD, Raid 0, and upgrade the O/S to XP-PRO and I'll have my "Dream Machine".

Beats a IMHO.

Forgot to include that the battery life (per M-Tech) will be 2.5 hours for the 12 Cell Battery.

Date given for it's release is this 12th, at least at sites that have stated a date for it like: http://www.go-l.com/laptops/index.htm .

Well we don't have long to wait and see if they are right or not.

Hm, it's not against forum rules to post links like this is it?

M-Tech sez, the 26th for general public.

That Link Has Some Interesting Info... Such as:
Superb Ultra-high contrast 15" QXGA 2048x1536 Wide-Viewing Angle Displays

That would be nice....

Well that's not to lon away either, looks like a pretty sure bet that we will get to see some of what the 8790 has to offer this month.
The 4780 fans were never all that loud, about the same as a normal desktop. The big problem with the 4780 is that the chipset and graphics card produce too much heat for a simple metal plate to cool them down. As such you could jsut about cook m&m's on it, let alone melt them

Does anyone know if it is possible to get these machines as "barebones". I would assume that these machines are made by Clevo and Sager is adding the CPU, Memory, Hard drive, and accesories. I have looked all over for Clevo Distributors with no sucess. I have a customer that wants several of these 8790 configred machines and after reading what I have read here... I must have one of the beasts for myself. I wonder why the Clevo site doesn't list this particular model yet?

I hope someone can answer my questions...

Thanks

Also, this may be a dumb question..but why 8790? Are 8890s better? It SOUNDS like a step down.

I was wondering the same thing. If it's the next best thing, it seems odd that they'd number it in a reverse fashion.

*shrugs*

If you go to the Clevo site it will give you the US sales unit for Clevo. If you contact them and give them your reseller info then they might be able to get you a few barebones units. I just hope you have laying around the correct DVD/CR-R/DVD-+R RW and laptop hard drives or the barebones route may become a major detour..............

Clevo will sell you the units directly, but the Sager prices are lower than the US Clevo prices. If you are a reseller you can also contact Sager directly and see what their barebones pricing might be. From my own experience Sager only does 'package' deals.

Good luck.
