New Sager 8790 Model release pics are up - Page 30

I have yet to see an AMD laptop with a 17" screen but give it a few months and im sure it will be available. I really hope the dothans will be a lot better than the centrinos. I really dont like the idea of getting a laptop that has only an hour or less of battery life. Too bad they dont have the technology to create a better battery for these monster laptops that dosent cost an arm and a leg.

i'm starting to reconsider

I've been roaming these pages for months now and thought I had my mind made up on waiting it out for the 8790. Now i'm not so sure. The more I read about this prescott issue the more I am not wanting to get the 8790. It seems to me that Sager got themselves into a mess with this chip hense the delay we've been experiencing. Now, on the other hand I've been reading nothing but good things about the AMD64's. Anyone have any idea how long into the future we will have to wait for an 8790 with a AMD64 chip? Seems to me that even if it is a couple more months that it is the safer and better decision to make.

Geez, you all sound like a bunch of old hens cackling away about stuff you have little knowledge of and zero control over. I'd rather be listening in on a Oprah forum discussing Dr. Phil.

I'm reconsidering also. I agree, the ideal machine would be an 8790 with a mobile A64 chip in it. Similar performance with another hour or more of battery life. It would be tough waiting, especially since I haven't heard any rumors of such a machine coming down the line.

I'm curious about the 090 centrinos also but those aren't expected 'til summer.

No harm done...just trying to see what you REALLY think about Voodoo etc.

So can someone explain to me if the Voodoo's are good notebooks?

All I know about them is what I saw on their website and what I saw was one hell of a over-priced laptop. I am talking about the new model with the 256 ATI 9700.

Thanks

Considering Voodoo's prices, what can we expect in terms of price from the Pctorque's 8790? I don't wanna spend $3000+ in my notebook, maybe I'll have to reconsider my choices if the estimated price is too high
post #593 of 727
Ok, pricing guess time.

Step one: Max out Voodoo machine to normal paramaters (expectations)
Step two: Subtract $2000 = PCTorque's base model price and similar features as above
Step three: Add up between $200 to $500 in added features (more mem, extra bag, extended warranty, etc.)
Step four: Wait until PCTorque sells machine
Step five: Buy Sager 8790 at massive price discout w/out $500 car paint job and $600 tatoo sticker.

I can safely say that a $4000.00 machine from Voodoo can be had for $2000 - $2500 from PC Torque...
My guess still holds... add $400 to the 4780. I just went through the 4780-S configurator and got $2050 for the specs I wanted (gig ram, 7200 spin HD). So I am guessing it will be under $2500 for the unit I would want. So that would be $1200 savings compared to Voodoo. I'm thinking I could buy a stencil and then Sharpie a tattoo on my own laptop if I wanted.

Don't know where you got your number from but the Dell XPS cost $3000 for me...and I was cutting corners.

The 9100 was $2400 with the WSXGA+ screen and 3.0 Ghz P4.
I configged a 9100
3.2 Ghz
512MB RAM
128MB 9700
60GB 7200 rpm HDD
Free Palm Zire
15.4 WUXGA

all for $2119.00 which I think is a steal!!! I have saved it in my cart...if the 8790 turns out to be a whopper or a stale rug - i'll pass
post #598 of 727
9100 is awesome looking :P
just o matter of time, i think sager wont let us down.

If only the Dell 9100 had a full scale keyboard
I gotta have a bigger keyboard..........
