Top cover removal and replacement?

Has anyone taken off the top cover? If so, how did you do it?
Mine has some slight scratches and I'd like to either refinish it or buy a new one. Can the blue plastic back of LCD be sanded and polished/buffed or should I just buy a new one? Do they even make the blue replacement backs?

Toshiba might help you if you're off of your warranty.

This is a duplicate post. He had one on the Peer to Peer where I thought most of his questions were answered.

First, the questions were NOT all answered in that post, thank you! It stopped short of taking the lid off and no one anwered the question if you could order a new lid or at least refinish the one I have now.

Here is pix of lid and info about my notebook is in my sig. below.

This is my first Toshiba after owning 5 different Dells the past six years. All the Dells could have their lids removed pretty easily.

If I can't refinish the lid, (sand/buff/polish) then I will go this route:

Have you tried contacting customer service to see if you can order another lid? Some of the models (I don't remember if this was one of them or not) let you "choose" a lid color other than the default for like $50, so I would think that you could get another one from them for about that price.

As for refinishing/buffing it, I would think that you could. Why don't you look around into some of the Modding/custom paint job threads and see if there are any places near you that you could take it to and get some more info from their techs to see exactly what is needed and how it is done (but make them think you are getting a quote from them for them to do it).

good advice there goonter...

the a75 is no longer in production but there should be parts available for it, you may have to go through a toshiba service center near you for them as well...

Thanks for the excellent advice!

I'm legally deaf and so I have to use email, so is there an email address for customer service? It seems that Toshiba and other outfits prefer calls and give you a big run-around to different FAQs and such which gets very irritating. Just last week I had a HUGE problem trying to get hold of Sony reps via email. Never did in fact. This was their response to an email I FINALY got back:
Sony believes that customer service issues should be addressed through live, personal communication. As such, these issues are addressed through telephone contact only. No email. Please contact one of our customer service representatives to discuss your concerns.

Also, where are the Modding/custom paint job threads?

I didn't find an address for Toshiba, but many authorized service centers do put up emails on the Tosh website. Try starting HERE, select your state then look for one near you that has an email address and shoot them an email asking them how to get a new top cover and how much it'll cost.

I'm gonna see if I can dig out some the the paint threads and I'll get back.

One more question... is my A75 lid metal or plastic?
I don't know, but I'd guess some type of plastic.

Hey! Thanks! I will bookmark that one.

They had the lid for a little over half of what a new one was quoted to me by another site.

I wet-sanded a bit too much and went through the paint in spots, so instead of paying $130 for a new lid, I went the http://www.schtickers.com/ route. I like it so far.

to remove the top cover you got to dissasemble most of it to remove the lcd connection to the motherboard then just swap with another lcd. Not too hard really i disasembled in about 20 min.

Use this guide very helpful.
