LCD and Tearing

Thread Starter
I posted that thread on the asus forum above, but i got no replies in a few days so ill try here since its more on topic.

I notice a lot of horizontal tearing when playing videos.
The problem became more apparent for some reason, maybe different drivers? I mean I dont remember the tearing when I got my laptop back in late July, but back then I used the asus drivers, but I didnt really play games.

Anyways, I notice a lot of tearing in movie playback and also in video games, though in video games, if I force a 50fps max, I wont get any tearing.

In 2d mode though, I dont know how to force a max FPS, so I get a lot of tearing in videos

Ive heard people fixed it for other laptops by forcing a higher refresh rate, but I believe its BS, but I tried it anyways and I was right, its BS.

So do you guys with the z71v get tearing? and did you guys fix it?

If you do a search its called vertical sync. This option must be enabled in doom 3 especially if you are over 30fps. Also know as Vsink. This will alleviate "tearing" as you call it. This will not be present in video play back. tearring only happens in video games as i know it.

I know of vertical sync. The issue is, it doesnt affect 2d mode video. In games, if I dont use vsync (I turned it off, but I put a cap on my FPS rate), Ill get tearing, but with a cap on FPS, I dont get tearing

In video playback (2d), I will get tearing and forcing Vsync with the nvidia panel doesnt affect 2d.

AMn i ve never seen this before on the z71v. Whatever screwy you did with your drivers i ll give you one pice of advice i give to all the rest of you maniacs who like messing with your drivers. USE THE BASE DRIVERS ONLY unless you dont mind posting here for help. That does not mean that after you messed with your drivers and dled a whole bunch of clocking genning volting utils that if you install your base driver now everything will work. USer error is the keyword here. You are the user and now you have to figure out where you went wrong. Rule of thumb is if it works on a fresh install but not on your old install then you did soemthing bad.
