Monitor Question for the 9300

Thread Starter
There is two choices for the LCD monitor on the 9300 and basically im kind of short on funds and was wondering if there is a huge difference between the two.

17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display

17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™

If I decide to go with the XGA which costs 125 less will I still be satisfied with it or should I opt for the UXGA if its really worth the extra money. And BOTH these screens are LCD displays correct?

uxga has a glossy screen. the resolution is 1900x1200. wxga is non glossy, and 1400x900. your choice.

I just got a replacement UXGA screen that doesn't have the glossy coating. I don't think it looks as nice without it, but the glossy coat shows fingerprints like no other so I'm not sure which one I like best yet.

Draconis, you are right about fingerprints, my solutions is to keep everyone's fingers away from my screen =)

In response to original post, UXGA has resolution of 1920 x 1200 which makes things look kinda small but it gives you LOTS of workspace and I am loving it. XGA ais 1440x900 or something like that so it's not AS much space. If you like glossy-like display that's extra bright (TrueLife), go for the UXGA screen. If you take laptop outside a lot, go with UXGA because you can see it better in light.

PS: Be sure to change DPI settings on your I9300 once it arrives from 120DPI back to the normal 96DPI if you are ordering the UXGA screen.

Definitely. The 120DPI looks retarded.

Keep everything away from the screen. It would be helpful to wear a medical mask when using the laptop to keep it from getting dirty.

That would be great, how did you score that?

I want UXGA but can't get it because of the glossy screen. Taking that into the office I would have a headache in minutes because of the high glare with flourescent lights.

Well, there were a lot of people over for Thanksgiving and I was letting a lot of people play games on my laptop (Dad, wife's brothers, friends) so they could play networked games with others.
Anyway, I noticed some scratches on the screen and got kind of ticked... so I called Dell and told them about the light leakage I had noticed (but up until now didn't really care about ) and the paint that wore off my palmrest. They offered to replace the palmrest and the LCD... so 2 days later I got an XGA screen and a new palmrest.
I installed the palmrest and had them send me the correct UXGA screen which arrived today... it has no glossy coating though

Draconis77.. just wondering if they asked for the scratched palmrest back or not?

yeah. I ended up with 3 boxes that have to go back to them. The old palmrest, the XGA they sent and the old UXGA.
