Just checking. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just another Dell OS CD w/ all the extra crap they throw on there...
More than likely they're just imaging an SP2 ISO onto a printed disc to save on the cost of buying the ritzy holographic discs.
Yeah I removed the System Restore from my Laptop to pick up more HD space and asked for the disks as well and got them within 3 days.
i have a question, is their os cd goin to be include all their drivers?
Nope.. its a standard OEM OS CD. You need to ask for the Drivers and Applications CDs aswell.
are they gonna charge extra?
if they are, i might as well dl from the net. heh, cant' justify paying something i can get for free
post #9 of 34
No.. You have already paid for the OS and are entitled to a hardcopy. They simply make it hard for you to get it. Its also a way for them to charge 10 bucks as most people will pay it. Just call/email and tell them that you need the CDs. If they try to say you dont need them simply explain that you deleted the backup partition while playing with Linux LOL They will beleive that

mine is lime green (xp pro w/SP2)

Mine is Lime Green also XP Pro sp2. I for one most like a lot of people can't stand for all the bloatware and I am particular what software I install on my machine. Some customer support give you a hard time and some don't they just send all the software Cd's that came pre installed on your PC. I had to go as far as tell them that I use some software for work and am required to do a clean fresh instal then create a image of my hardrive incase the unfortunate event happens I need to get my PC up and running fast. Which is the truth to a certin extent. But if you get a rep who does not want to send them to you just ask to talk to a floor manager and if you still get refused call back and talk to another one . It is even better if you are within your 21 day return period tell them if you can't get all the CD's that came preinstalled you will send the whole system back. You should make sure they send you the following theese are the main ones.

1. Windows Operateing system CD
2.System Software (includes Device drivers & Diognostics and utilities)
3.Tools system software (includes Antivirus software, Support software, Multimedia software & internet software.
Note if you use Dell media expierence you will need the power DVD CD because Dell media expierence will not work without it.

I think if you order like works suit or office pro they automaticly send software you purchase. Im not sure because I have my own microsoft office professional I use . That word perfect that is preinstalled is junk in my opinion.

Then there is Burning software like sonic or Roxio. Again I have my own I don't use the junk Dell installs.

They have a couple more like Microsoft Money and photo software. again which I have my own photo software I use

Also the encyclopedia software.

I think that is about it sombody may want to add to the list if i missed somthing . Basicly you should get a list with the papperwork of all the installed software and you can insist that they send evrything on the list you have because you acually paid for it.

I always do a clean install of windows when I get a new PC I dont even use the drivers CD I always go to the Dell download site and make my own disc of all the latest drivers and all then I install my prefered software from my colection rather then all the Dell junk or software with trial periods.

Got mine through the Dell chat. I just ask the rep for the restore and OS cds and they sent me the whole package: OS, application CDs and the driver CDs - no charge. It took about 2 days from the day I requested it to delivery.
I asked for all the cd's and they sent me the OS and drivers disks, but no Sonic or Powere DVD. I called back and complained, and they balked. Spent about 1 hour on the phone being transferred back and forth before I just hung up.

Then Dell gives me a call to see if I got the disks and if I'm satisfied. When I said I wasn't, he couldn't help me (of course), and to call customer service (again). Such BS. I really don't want to spend more time on this, so I've given up.

I've been a loyal Dell customer for about 14 years. My first dell was a 486 33mhz machine (or maybe 66 mhz, can't remember). Dell might not get my business again.

It's the luck of the draw it all depends who you talk to. If you do get a idiot ask to speak to a floor manager be curtious but firm.It is even better if you are within your 21 day return period. Then you can just tell them look if you can't send me the software inwhich im intittled to and which I paid for.I will just return the whole PC. It is a shame that sometimes you have to go through such measures after spending your hard earned cash. It is not even a option for me to use Dells restore partition being it just reinstalls all of Dells junk software and bloatware. I have much better software and I like to instal my OS a certin way with my prefered software then create a image of my hardrive after I have evrything installed and set up the way I want it. Afterall it is my computer.

i've owned 4 dell system in the past 1.5 years and never have they give me an os cd so i doubt they will give me this time. i'll try to do it tomorrow. the only time i have the driver/os cd was back then, they were being shipped together. dell is so cheap. heh
