Expresscard

I just received a Dell Inspiron B120 that I purchased online. I was unaware that this laptop did not come with a cardbus slot; it only comes with an expresscard slot...which is apparently the new standard. The trouble is, I can't seem to find any wireless ethernet cards that are expresscards. Does anyone know where I can get one or when they might come out? I'm very surprised that Dell would make a laptop made specifically for expresscards when they don't even sell expresscard products.

That's too bad.

If your B120 didn't ship with a Mini-PCI WLAN, you could buy the TrueMobile 1470 (Based on the Broadcom chipset...the best IMHO) from Dell using the above link or another source...

Thanks, I'm actually now considering a 108 Mbps USB 2.0 adapter. I have a wireless Dlink DI-624 router; do you know if a US Robotics adapter would work? (see link below)

Sure it would work but it will always occupy a USB spot when you wanted to access your LAN and this still leaves an empty Mini-PCI spot in your notebook.

Except the USR is not a 108Mbps adapter but a 125Mbps adapter. It uses a different method (à la Linksys SpeedBooster or Buffalo High Speed) to the Dlink to boost 802.11g speeds. The two methods are not compatible and you end up with the stock 802.11g 54Mbps speeds only.

Sorry to revive an old thread, however has anyone confirmed that the B120 ships with the WLAN antenna wether you ordered wireless with the unit or not?

I'm assuming there must be a built in antenna to use the 1470 Mini-pci card (or even the 1370), no?

thanks

Typically machines from dell include the antenna but this is only confirmed on the higher up models. Its likely though they did include one so it would be less work for the installer whether its Dell's or the Consumers task.
