This is a tremendous "Gray" area for AW. I sold my 7700 because of this very issue. In a nutshell, many moons ago (Yes PUN intended), AW advertising mentioned that their GPU's were upgradeable on the 7700, the problem began with how you or I may define "Upgradeable" and how AW defines upgradeable. In other words, the capability is there, however, if an "Approved" upgrade is ever released, then yes, if its not, then no.
My 7700 had the 6800 Go GPU and I wanted to upgrade to the 6800 Go Ultra or the 7800 Go GTX, I was told anytime now, coming soon, not this year, and a whole slew of other promising statements and it never happened. I saw the writing on the wall and dumped my AW before I got stuck with a $3600 door stop.
In retrospect, the computers are top notch, you really do get what you pay for, and that's sort of the problem. There is more money to be made in selling you a whole new system then giving you the ability to upgrade.
Absolutely DO NOT hold your breath with GPU upgrades on AW lappy's, buy the system for the quality, the style, and community. AW folks are all pretty cool people so that's a definite plus...
