Wxga vs. Wuxga *for gaming and regular use*

Before anyone gets mad and says to do research, I have and none of it answered my question. Between the two displays I don't think I need 1900x1200, all I will be using my 9300 for is surfing/casual gaming... so should I just save $125 and put it on ram instead?
go with the wuxga. it looks so beautiful with truelife

That question has been answered many times. Let me answer it again... It is a completely PERSONAL choice and every single person has their own opinion. That should be 1 of the first things someone finds in their research of a 9300. Both screens are nice in their own ways and most people greatly prefer 1 or the other. All I can say is that *I* love my Glossy WUXGA w/truelife @ 1920x1200 for both gaming and regular use.

Edit: Blah sorry.. Dont mean to sound harsh but the same questions regarding RAM and WXGA vs WUXGA are just all to often here

Its just that I want to focus more on performance over quality...I know it will take more power to run a game at 1920x1200 than 1440x900... and while running at 1920 isn't much of a problem now, it may be next year that the 6800 will not be able to handle new games at that resolution. Another thing is that ive been running 1024x786 forever and I changed up to 1280x1024 and I don't care much for it... lol...maybe take time to get used to?

1. Don't compare widescreen resolutions to normal 4:3 resolutions. Run a 4:3 resolution on a 16:10 screen and your image will be streched.

2. "it may be next year that the 6800 will not be able to handle new games at that resolution" The 6800 can't handle many new games this year at 1920x1200.

3. "Its just that I want to focus more on performance over quality" Get a 1920x1200, lower the resolution and you get your performace factor.

4. Once owning a 1920x1200 screen you never want to go with anything less then that. The truelife display rocks (unless it hurts your eyes)

You can always run @ 1440 x 900 on the WUXGA screen .. It still looks amazing

You can change the display settings to adjust for aspect ratios too, so there is no streching.. Just puts black bars on the sides to fill up the extra widescreen space (Kind of like watching widescreen movies on a regular TV, only on the side)
I like the Truelife gloss... only now I have an UXGA that doesn't have the glossy finish.

I have the WXGA. I recently saw a 9300 with the WUXGA and thought it was great. If I were to buy again I would get the WUXGA. If you get the WUXGA, that does not mean you are required to run games at 1920x1200.

True. I agree with Jordan1. I have the WUXGA screen and the first time i turned my laptop on i was like "got damn thats small as shit" lol. But after using it for like an hour i got used to it and now i love it. I wouldn't go with anything lower. But as for gaming, i'm playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted at 1280x960 (the only widescreen resolution available in the game natively) and the game looks great. It runs kinda shitty sometimes, but i'll tweak the graphics a lil more and see if that helps (i also overclocked the video card which helped quite a bit but it runs hot). But anyway, it does come down to preference. However, you'll find that most people here seem to prefer the WUXGA screen.

1440x900 on a 17" widescreen is just a waste IMO. Get the WUXGA, you'll be glad you did. There's nothing wrong with running games at a lower res. The ONLY games that I notice a discrepancy or degradation in graphical quality at lower resolutions are Guild Wars and WoW. Ironically, those are two games that run beautifully at 1920x1200 with maximum everything, so it turns out to be a moot point. You definitely won't notice a discrepancy with shooters or most other games. The screen is amazing.

I love my wuxga.

The desktop and apps look fantastic. Hi-def 1080i content from dvd's or my Fusion hdtv usb is incredible.

When gaming at lower than native I really dont notice substantial image degradation.

I haven't seen the wxga, but I love my LG wuxga.

well you should, we dont need 80 of these threads

wuxga

I've had both, the WXGA on a 9200 and the WUXGA on this XPS2, and I greatly prefer the WUXGA

WUXGA for the win!! =) And like others said, you won't want to go back to anything less after using it for a day or so. Soooo much desktop space, WOW! Superb for software development, gaming, surfing... you name it!! You can literally run two windows of almost any application side by side because there is this amazing amount of space! =)

So, everyone is saying basicly that I can run a lower resolution in games and normal use and still get the beauty of the Truelife?? What kind widescreen resolutions are available in games?
You can run outside native resolution but the image won't be as good, it will be blurry.
If you are gaming, i would suggest WXGA+. 1920x1200 is too much for 9300 w/ 6800 unless you are planning to upgrade to 7800. With 1440x900 you can run full performance and have some eye candy. With 1920x1200 you can barely run the game with that resolution, and can't have stuff like AA/AF/soft shadows etc. In a year you probably have to decrease your native resolution in games anyway, so you will lose image quality, why go for higher resolution if you are going to decrease it anyway.
Also, WUXGA panel is glossy, it means you will be distracted by reflections if you are using it near a light source and it is very very difficult to use outdoors under the sun. With WXGA+ you won't have that problem.
It is kinda personal preference, both have their advantages/disadvantages. I think the price for WUXGA isn't worth it, so i went for WXGA+ and happy with it.
