I have never purchased from Ebay before. If the other party requests that I use PayPal, is it safe? What is the safest method of payment? What if they ask for private payment?

I have this memory installed in my Inspiron 14R. 6gb (one 2gb & one 4gb). Great performance! I highly recommend Kingston.

Well what can I say, I needed that little bit of extra storage that as a family we could all use. After searching around I narrowed it down to three suppliers, not the cheapest, but all well...

I purchased this Nook Color specifically because I was taking a very long trip to China and wanted to be able to read without carrying a ton of books. I also liked that it had email capability...

Its a payment system, better than cash and probably better for the seller than a check. The buyer pays to PayPal and then PayPal pays the seller. But as to whether your purchase is any better or you'll have some form of protection should the merchandise turn out bogus, its probably not all that perfect. I don't think they guaranty the products . Its basically buyer beware with anything on E-Bay, whether your are sending someone a product in return for money or send money in return for a product. If its a small time organization with minimal history on E-Bay, well, you are taking your chances.
Any long-distance transaction is iffy. Most turn out perfectly OK. Then there are the greedy few that spoil things for everyone else.
b3r7man, I'd like to know how you got burned using paypal, especially as the seller. You get paid by them and then you send the product out. How could you get burned? Unless you sent the product with payment to follow, which then didn't. I mean, PayPal credits your account, you have the money. What, did they then reverse the transaction? Unless there is really good cause, I don't think they would do that as it expose them to Federal Fraud Charges.

I have bought and sold thousands of times though paypal with no problems. I guess I am a lucky one, but only a few cases out of the millions of transactions seem to be negative. Unless it is a super high dollar amount and even then you can pay a fee for a guarentee (spelling?). No problems here ever. Good Luck.

Paypal warning!
Here is my story. I sold an Item on Ebay, got the funds no problem. 45 days later I get an email from Paypal, saying it was a non autorized transaction and needed to pay back the funds. My account showed up as negative the funds that were deducted giving me 30 days to being my negative account back to possitive. My account showed -2000 dollars minus paypal fees. I called paypal and gave them all the info Shipped to address, emails talking about the transaction, tracking info (but some one else signed for the package), phone number etc.... And even talked to the guy via email about the product after the sale etc. They told me would get back to me on the matter. 10 days after all that, they said he never authorized the transaction and it was between him and I and out of there hands. I still had to pay back the funds to them, since they had to refund the guy his money! Then when I tried to call him the number was disconnected. So tells me that anyone can do the same and get away with the same thing!B3r7man

I've used paypal for years and it's worked out well the vast majority of the time. As a seller you can get burned but no more than if you were accepting credit cards in a merchant account and definitly less liability than a check. All in all I enjoy it - get the debit card and you have immediate access to your cash - plus you can earn interest on it. Not a bad system.

Based on what I can figure out paypal has gotten alot better with their policies - the only situation in which there is anything like this that can happen is when there is no item shipped or it can be proved that it wasn't recieved - it sounds like somehow yours slipped in between the lines - however I would go so far as to not pay back paypal - bad call on their part and I can't see how they can do much to come after you . . . . Should be their problem for letting the unauthorized transaction through in the first place if that's really true . . .

Yeah I went negative once when I used my debit card for gas at the pump and forgot to keep track of it . . . . no late fees or anything - I think they'll just keep bugging you and lock down your account - to my knowledge they won't even put you into collections or anything . . . tough to say for sure for that kind of money though.

simple, straightforward, safe. There's not such thing as secure eheh. Just make sure you watch your e-mail inbox...many a trojan paypal/ebay e-mail going around prompting you to login and verify your information.
