New Omega Drivers Released! (based on 5.11)

Well, you can download the new omega drivers based on ATI catalyst 5.11: http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Here are some benchmarks I got with the ATI catalyst mobility drivers (5.11) and the new omega drivers:

Official ATI catalyst mobility (5.11):

3DMark2001: 15740

3DMark2003: 5780

3DMark2005: 2582

Omega drivers (5.11):

3DMark2001: 15692

3DMark2003: 5782

3DMark2005: 2589

There is almost no difference between the two... I'm seriously thinking to go back to the official mobility drivers... opinions?

wow... that's weird... however, I know for sure that other 8104 owners get similar scores as mine.

PS: Did you turn the video settings from quality to speed? That would explain the difference. Also, the 256 video memory helps!

I allways use stock settings.

maybe because of the x700 256mb in the AS1694WLMi compared to the x700 128mb on in TM8104?

Yes, that's what I tought. It would be interesting to see how much you score as you have 64 mb.

I didn't know that VRAM could make such a big difference in game performance...

last time i checked i only manage to get 1300 +/-. well, at least it could run the game i wanted to play very well (sims 2 and pro evolution soccer 5) and even COD2 with max setting under DX7 and with a little bit config under DX9 with 1024x768. I guess it is enough for now

Are these the mobility catalyst drivers or the desktop catalyst drivers? Very nice score there...

Did you make any changes in the 3D\GL settings or was it set on balanced before?

Desktop drivers converted using DHMod tool. "Balanced", as it says.

Do you think that there is a performance difference between the official ATI mobility catalyst drivers and the modded ATI desktop catalyst drivers? Because I'm seriously thinking to get it instead of the omega drivers...

No known difference "im my opinion". The mobility usually are just modded by ATI to recognize the mobility chipsets, otherwise you have to mod the desktops yourself to recognize mobility.

if you look in the forums there is a link for the tre Moble drivers that you do not have to mod.

WOW guys.... check this out!!! I just installed the official ATI desktop catalyst drivers just to see the 3DMark scores and I got interesting results:

ATI desktop catalyst (5.11):

3DMark2001: 15702
3DMark2003: 5782
3DMark2005: 2572

To summarize this: 3DMark 2001 and 2005 scores were significantly worse than the ones with the ATI mobility catalyst drivers (check my first post)!

How weird is that??? And yes, I've run the benchmarks under the exactly same circumstances (antivirus disabled, etc.)

What do you think?

Well, I was thinking that maybe I installed some new softwares (which could be resource hog) and those could explain the performance decline. So I decided to re-install the ATI mobility catalyst drivers and run 3DMark2005 again and I got 2586!!!

Conclusion: the mobility catalyst drivers do have a better performance than the (modded) desktop catalyst drivers on notebooks!

I think yer smokin' something. (Kidding of course.) You're splitting hairs for very tiny differences in scores. Based on your 3DMark2005 scores for example:

2582 - 2589 - 2572 - 2586 (mobility - Omega - desktop - mobility)

...and using 2582 as a base, your percent difference in score is:

2582base, +.0027%, -.0039%, +.0015%

All of these differences are well less than 1% from the base. (.50 = 50%, .01=1%, etc. Use your Windows Calculator.) Similar results for the other benchies, regardless of whether plus or minus.

Yes, the difference is small. Obviously I was not expecting a 100 points difference among these drivers. But still interesting that there is a more than 10 points difference between the mobility and desktop catalyst on my notebook. That's it.

Also, if people didn't care about a 10 point difference in their 3DMark2005 scores nobody would install the newest catalyst drivers every time a new version comes out.

Not true. There are 2 reasons I install newer ATI drivers:
- added features (like new shader standards, or newer driver architecture, etc.)
- fixes for particular games, applications, or general issues

I do not care about 3DMark scores. I briefly installed 3DMark and ran it once when I got this laptop because I was one of the first to buy TM810x and people on these forums kept asking for the 3DMark score. 3DMark was gone from my computer (to never get installed again) immediately after that.

Trust me, when you stop worring about 3DMark score, life becomes less stressful/more enjoyable.
