Whudup AW fellas

I need some help deciding...

I had an area 51 m7700 in production last week but after reading posts in here i decided to cancel it and do a little more research before buying my first notebook. I think the fact that they put desktop processors in it really takes away from the whole "working" that notebooks just cant do at 435235 degrees.

I really like the alienware concept but it seems that their notebooks are still hit and miss from the extreme differences in opinions throughout these forums and elsewhere on the internet.

I need a notebook thats gonna last me 4 years of college. Id like to be playing good games at halfway decent graphics for atleast another year but the main priority is college life compatibility. I need one that is going to last an entire class period when on low settings but would like to play a some BF2 and sims 2 & others during study time (plugged in of course).

I narrowed my search down to the Dell Inspiron 6000 and the AW a51 m5500. same memory, same hard drive, same screen, AW has m780 processor, dell has m770 (hopefully those wont fry like the a51 m7700 desktop processors) the AW has a 256mb nvidia whereas the dell is at a 128 mb ati. Id go with dells 4 year warrantee as opposed to alienwares 3 year if i had a choice. the price on the dell is way down right now so id like to make my decision before the 500 dollar off dell offer goes away (the 8th)

again i need one built to last. I cant be sending it in for repairs every few months.

Any INTELLIGENT input would be appreciated (no ALIENWARE RUUUUUUUULES). Am I even looking at the right notebooks for the job? how long is the battery life on both? whos warrantee is better? which is more reliable?

thanks

I think the 51m5500 will do you right as it has the ability to switch between the onboard graphics and thus lower power consumption for class and the PCIe card for gaming when plugged in. The M class processor should be great for this as it can also be stepped down when just using word or surfing the net again extending battery life.

No one has one of these yet although a couple people here have them on order and should be getting them soon. So there is no real world test of them, but the M class will definitely run cooler than the desktop chips. From my experiences with AW you will be very pleased with the computer.

Since you do want to game with it I'd go for the faster processor and at least a gig of ram. Also, the Nvidia card should be better than the 128 ATI. Dell tends to get cards specifically made for their machines, so I'm not sure what the benches on it would be for gaming.

ya i looked at those too but decided the larger screen would take up significantly more battery. a 15 inch would probably be a bit easier to take around as well.

I'm surprised nobody here looks at the Sager 5720. Basically it's a Dell XPS without the inflated price. Then again, it's a 17" notebook so apparently that's too big for you.
