8890 second bay HD bracket anywhere?

Thread Starter
I've tryied Sager, PCTorque, Prostar, Eurocom (still waiting to hear back), several laptop parts/repair shops and ebay looking for the second bay HD bracket (with electronics) for my 8890, an so far have had no luck.

Anyone know where else I may find one of these? The person from Prostar I spoke with was hopeful that they would have some of these in stock after the new year - anyone heard anything more definitive.

Many thanks!

The lack of these is why I usually full kit out my new laptops within 12 months of purchase.

If I come across a spare one I will let you know.

On my 8790 the bracket was already screwed in.

The 8890's came with a blank filler piece for disk bay 2.
You could put a DVD/CD drive, hard disk or network expander card (IP sharing module) into the bay.

To mount a hard disk drive you need the bay 2 mounting hardware and connector bridge which ship as one unit.

keep this up and we could almost go into production.

It would be great if they decided to reuse the chassis so we could get parts. I think my inverter is on the blink as well. The screen every so often will start flickering.
Aussie, I know this is off topic but do you use a cooling pad and if so which?

No I don't use a cooling pad. Reason being that they do very little except in one case. That case is when the ambient temperature so high that the airflow provided by the fans is not high enough to remove the heat generated by the laptop. In particular if you are playing intensive games that use the GPU a lot.

How high is that ambient temperature - I find that if the air temp in my office goes above 33 deg C then the laptops temp stays above 55 deg C, which is the upper setpoint of the fan controller (below that the temp cycles between 45 and 55 deg C). If the laptop's temp goes above 58 deg C the fans are then run at max. At this point the laptop is under stress and additional airflow THROUGH the laptop should be provided.

However, most cooling pads I am aware of can't improve the airflow through the laptop. You can't change that without totally changing the laptop.

Besides if the ambient temp is above 33 deg C then I am out of there into somewhere cooler. Right now our daytime temps are 40 deg C in the sun so the air con is the best cooling pad I can find
