Dell 700m OR Alienware Sentia

Hi, I am looking for 12.1" notebooks.

I have come down to deciding between Dell 700m and Alienware Sentia.

Sony was toooo expensive, and Apple, which was another good choice, cannot run popular linux distros or freeBSD.

I dont plan to do much of gaming on it, and I might end up with Linux as mmy major OS. I just need it for mobility and entertainment.

After configuring each, both come down to 1600~1900 range, with Dell being more expensive. I am getting fastest Pentium M and max RAM.

But confused as to which one too choose. I read the reviews here and on Cnet, and people seem to like both.

Advantage of dell - 3/4 yr warranty with accidental coverage (I get this with student discounts)

Advantage of Alienware - stuff like 7200 RPM drive, and being cheaper by 100-150 (after rebates).

I was inclining towards dell for now, and am hoping some new deals should make it cheaper. Though I am careful with stuff, but that accidental coverage is very tempting....

What should I get ?

Thanks

Heres the specs

i would so get the Alienware!!! just for the wow factor. I have an Alienware Area-51m (even though its the old model) i still have poeple go wow thats an Alienware.

I currently own an ultraportable, the Asus S5n and i love it, its the best lappy for my cituation. Its got with the 9 cell battery about 9 hour battery life, 2.8lbs, 768 mb of ram, and any hdd you can config it with.

As for the Dell, i have heard a lot of people that like them, its the widescreen, which is nice, but im not a dell person at all. Expect i just ordered a Dell 2405FPW as a little xmas present for my self. But that is the extent of my Dell merchanidse.

yeah, but my liking for dell is only for the accidental thingy and 4 year warranty....

Alienware becomes more expensive if I put 3 year warranty, but I dont care much about software and normal problems...

with dell I can throw it and run a car over it, still they will replace it. Not that I am going to do that, but who knows, accidents happen.

So I guess I need some really good reasons for not to go with dell, like more than wow, for external appearences arent everything

(The REAL Darqhelmet) Hey Helmet you get 24 hour tech with both of them if something breaks though you have to send it to the Depot with AW Dell will send a Tech out with the Parts. And yes there is Bloatwear with Dell but that is easy to fix.

(The REAL Darqhelmet)They will fix your laptop or replace it with something used more then likly same specs.

Bloatwear Dell puts alot of extra crap on there systems that you have to get ride of not hard to do just annoying as hell. AW from what I understand is a very clean install then again I have heard whore stories from there camp as well.

solution:

Uniwill 233II0. its your basic Sentia w/o the head and with a MUCH lower pricetag. At this point it definatly beats AW for bang for the buck.
I'd get the Dell. Wait for a coupon to make it cheaper. There is also a higher compacity battery that gives it nearly 5 hours.

If you're going to be spending that much, take a look at the MSI S270/S260.

Sentia is much better and not much more expensive. Plus the Sentia looks a lot better.
